Auriense 0-3 RC Deportivo: Deportivo ease into the next round of the Copa del Rey

RC Deportivo produced a controlled and professional 0-3 victory over Auriense in their Copa del Rey knockout tie, with the Galician giants using their superior quality and depth to secure a place in the next round. Deportivo La Coruña were patient early on, broke the deadlock midway through the first half, and then managed the game expertly after doubling their advantage before half-time. Auriense, backed by a spirited home support, competed well in spells but could not turn their energy into a consistent attacking threat.

Match overview

Deportivo set up with a possession-based 4-2-3-1 and looked to move Auriense from side to side, creating space between the lines. Auriense responded with a compact 5-4-1 block, looking to deny central access and threaten on the counter or from set pieces. The plan worked for the opening quarter-hour, but once Deportivo found rhythm through Yeremay Hernández and David Mella, the game tilted firmly in the visitors’ favour.

The scoreline reflected the difference in levels, but Auriense deserved credit for their organisation and resilience. Their goalkeeper made several saves and their back line blocked a number of shots, while Deportivo’s finishing in key moments proved decisive.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Auriense’s best early moment came from a quick counter, but the final shot was blocked inside the penalty area.
• 17th minute: Deportivo took the lead when Yeremay Hernández cut in from the left and curled a low effort into the far corner.
• 38th minute: Lucas Pérez doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after a foul on a Deportivo attacker during a corner.
• 52nd minute: Auriense’s goalkeeper produced a strong save to deny Mella a third goal early in the second half.
• 74th minute: David Mella sealed the win with a composed finish after a flowing Deportivo move down the right.

Tactical story

Deportivo’s dominance came from their ability to keep Auriense pinned back without becoming reckless. The midfield double pivot protected the back four, allowing the full-backs to advance and the front four to rotate. Yeremay was particularly dangerous drifting inside, while Mella’s direct running stretched the home defence throughout.

Auriense defended with discipline and tried to use long diagonal passes to relieve pressure, but the gap in individual quality told. Once Deportivo scored first, Auriense had to open up slightly, and that created the space Deportivo needed to add a second before half-time and a third after the break.

Standout players

Yeremay Hernández was the standout performer, combining sharp dribbling with an end product. His opener settled Deportivo and his movement consistently drew defenders out of position. David Mella was also excellent, adding a goal and an assist-like contribution with his direct running. For Auriense, the goalkeeper kept the score respectable with a string of saves, while the central defenders showed commitment despite the pressure.

What the result means

The win sends RC Deportivo into the next round of the Copa del Rey, where they will expect to face stronger opposition. For Auriense, the cup run ends, but the performance offered encouragement for their league campaign. Deportivo’s clean sheet and three-goal margin will also boost confidence, while the result serves as a reminder of the depth and quality available at La Coruña.
