Auriense 2-0 CD San Jose de Soria: Copa del Rey Match Report

Auriense secured a place in the next round of the Copa del Rey with a composed 2-0 victory over CD San Jose de Soria on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The home side scored once in each half at a lively ground, producing a disciplined cup performance that combined early pressure with clinical finishing after the break.

The Copa del Rey remains one of Spanish football’s most romantic competitions, offering lower-division clubs the chance to test themselves against higher-ranked opposition. Auriense embraced that opportunity, controlling long spells of the match and denying CD San Jose de Soria the space needed to build momentum.

Match Overview

Auriense started with intent, pressing high and forcing their opponents into rushed clearances. The opening goal arrived in the 34th minute when Brais Maceira latched onto a clever through ball and finished low into the bottom corner. CD San Jose de Soria responded with a brief spell of possession but struggled to create clear chances before half-time.

After the interval, Auriense managed the game intelligently. They slowed the tempo when needed, then struck again in the 78th minute through Iago López, whose curling effort from the edge of the box sealed the result. The clean sheet was just reward for a back line that stayed compact throughout.

Key Moments

• 34th minute: Brais Maceira opens the scoring for Auriense with a precise low finish.
• 45+2 minutes: CD San Jose de Soria’s best chance of the first half ends with a header sailing over the bar.
• 78th minute: Iago López doubles the lead with a well-placed strike from distance.
• 90th minute: Auriense goalkeeper Anxo Varela claims a late cross to preserve the shutout.

Tactical Story

Auriense lined up in a flexible 4-2-3-1, using their wide players to stretch the opposition and create overloads in the final third. Their midfield duo screened the defence effectively, cutting off passing lanes into the strikers. CD San Jose de Soria favoured a more direct 4-4-2, but they were often forced to chase the ball rather than dictate the rhythm.

The decisive tactical difference was Auriense’s pressing after losing possession. They won the ball back quickly in midfield, which led to both goals. San Jose de Soria’s attempts to counter were repeatedly slowed by Auriense’s recovery runs and disciplined shape.

Standout Players

Brais Maceira was central to Auriense’s attacking play, not only for his goal but for his movement between the lines. Iago López added composure in the second half, while centre-back Uxío Penedo dealt confidently with aerial balls. For CD San Jose de Soria, goalkeeper Álvaro Pascual made several saves to keep the score respectable, and midfielder Diego Sanz worked tirelessly despite limited support.

The win sends Auriense into the next round of the Copa del Rey with confidence and a valuable clean sheet. For CD San Jose de Soria, the focus now shifts back to league commitments, where they will look to turn promising spells into points. Auriense’s cup run gives the club a chance to dream of a bigger tie in the rounds ahead.
