Sport Boys 2-5 Alianza Atlético Sullana: Away Side Run Riot in Copa de la Liga Thriller

Alianza Atlético Sullana produced one of the standout performances of the Copa de la Liga season, dismantling Sport Boys 5-2 on the road in a seven-goal spectacle that will be remembered for its relentless attacking tempo. The visitors from Piura were ruthless in front of goal, punishing defensive errors and converting their dominance into a scoreline that flattered nobody.

For Sport Boys, it was a chastening night on home soil. The Callao club, backed by one of the most passionate supports in Peruvian football, simply could not live with the speed and precision of Alianza Atlético's counter-attacking, and the scoreline was a fair reflection of the gap between the two sides on the night.

Match Overview

The match began at a ferocious pace and never really slowed down. Sport Boys tried to take the initiative early, pushing bodies forward and looking to use the width of the pitch, but every time they committed numbers, Alianza Atlético found space behind them. The visitors' direct, vertical approach cut through the home midfield time and again.

By the midway point of the first half the pattern was established: Sport Boys with the ball, Alianza Atlético with the danger. The away side's clinical finishing turned good positions into goals, and once the lead was established, they managed the game with surprising composure for a team playing away from home in a cup competition.

Key Moments

• Opening breakthrough: Alianza Atlético struck first, converting an early attacking move to silence the home crowd and set the tone for the evening.
• Sport Boys respond: The hosts pulled a goal back to make it a contest, briefly raising hopes of a comeback in Callao.
• The decisive spell: Alianza Atlético scored twice in quick succession to re-establish control and effectively end the game as a contest.
• Late flourish: Sport Boys grabbed a second goal through sheer persistence, but the visitors added further goals to complete a comprehensive 5-2 victory.
• Final whistle: A statement result for Alianza Atlético and a defensive post-mortem for Sport Boys.

Tactical Story: Counter-Attacking Masterclass

The story of this match was transition football. Alianza Atlético Sullana were content to concede possession in less dangerous areas and then explode forward the moment they won the ball back. Their wide players attacked at speed, the central striker held the ball up intelligently, and the supporting runners arrived late and unmarked — a combination that Sport Boys never solved.

Sport Boys' problems were structural. Their midfield pushed high in search of goals, leaving the back four exposed and isolated. When the home side lost the ball in central areas, there was simply too much ground to cover. The result was a string of high-quality chances for the visitors and, ultimately, a five-goal haul that underlined their efficiency in front of goal.

Standout Performers

Alianza Atlético's attacking unit will take the plaudits, and rightly so — the movement, the finishing and the decision-making in the final third were of a very high standard. The midfield screen in front of the defence also deserves credit for repeatedly winning the ball back and launching attacks within seconds.

For Sport Boys, the two goals showed there is genuine attacking quality in the squad. The individuals who found the net kept working until the end, and the young players given minutes in a difficult match will learn a great deal from the experience. The defensive unit, however, will spend the week reviewing a demanding night.

What It Means for the Copa de la Liga Campaign

This result is a major boost for Alianza Atlético Sullana's Copa de la Liga ambitions. An emphatic away win of this magnitude does more than add three points — it sends a message to the rest of the competition, builds goal difference and gives the squad confidence that they can hurt anyone on the road.

Sport Boys now face a period of reflection. Cup football is unforgiving, and heavy home defeats can be difficult to shake off. The response in their next fixture will be telling: the talent is there, the support is there, but the balance between attacking ambition and defensive security has to be found quickly if their campaign is to get back on track.
