Real Cartagena 3-0 Patriotas FC: Hosts Deliver Statement Torneo BetPlay Dimayor Win

Real Cartagena produced a commanding 3-0 victory over Patriotas FC in the Torneo BetPlay Dimayor, turning a potentially tricky home fixture into a clear statement of intent. Two first-half goals put the hosts in control, and a composed second-half performance sealed all three points at the Estadio Jaime Morón León.

The win strengthens Real Cartagena’s position in the upper reaches of the standings and adds momentum to their promotion push. For Patriotas FC, the match exposed the difficulty of containing a home side that pressed aggressively, moved the ball quickly, and punished defensive hesitation.

Match Overview

Real Cartagena set the tone from the opening minutes. Their midfield pressed high, the full-backs pushed into advanced areas, and Patriotas FC were forced into hurried clearances. The hosts’ early dominance was rewarded in the 18th minute when Juan Pablo Zárate met a low cross from the right and swept a close-range finish beyond the goalkeeper.

The second goal arrived four minutes before half-time through Kevin Rivas, whose curling effort from the edge of the penalty area capped a flowing attacking move. Patriotas struggled to sustain possession and were often limited to long balls toward their forwards, which Real Cartagena’s centre-backs dealt with comfortably.

After the break, Real Cartagena managed the game maturely. They slowed the tempo when needed, kept their defensive shape, and struck again in the 68th minute through substitute Luis Cassiani, who finished calmly after a quick transition. The clean sheet completed a thoroughly professional afternoon.

Key Moments

• 18’ – Real Cartagena 1-0: Juan Pablo Zárate opens the scoring with a close-range finish after smart work down the right flank.
• 42’ – Real Cartagena 2-0: Kevin Rivas curls a precise effort from the edge of the box to double the lead before half-time.
• 55’ – Patriotas chance: The visitors’ best opportunity of the match is kept out by a strong save from the Real Cartagena goalkeeper.
• 68’ – Real Cartagena 3-0: Luis Cassiani seals the win with a composed finish on the counter-attack.
• 84’ – Clean sheet preserved: Another important save keeps Patriotas off the scoresheet and protects the three-goal margin.

Tactical Story

Real Cartagena’s 4-2-3-1 shape gave them control in central areas and allowed their attacking midfielders to drift between Patriotas’ defensive lines. The double pivot protected the back four, while the wide defenders provided width and made it difficult for Patriotas to close down crosses.

Patriotas FC attempted to defend in a compact 4-4-2 block, but they were unable to press the ball consistently. Real Cartagena repeatedly found space in the half-spaces, and once the first goal went in, the home side’s confidence visibly grew.

In the second half, Real Cartagena showed good game management. Rather than chasing a fourth goal recklessly, they kept possession, forced Patriotas to chase, and used substitutions to maintain energy. The third goal was a perfect example of that approach: a turnover followed by a direct, clinical counter-attack.

Standout Performers

Juan Pablo Zárate was the focal point of the attack, opening the scoring and occupying both centre-backs throughout. Kevin Rivas added quality between the lines, and his goal highlighted the technical level Real Cartagena showed in the final third. Luis Cassiani made an immediate impact from the bench, while the goalkeeper’s late saves ensured the hosts finished with a clean sheet.

For Patriotas FC, the afternoon was a difficult one. Their defenders worked hard under pressure, but the team struggled to keep the ball well enough to relieve that pressure. The visitors will need a stronger response in their next fixture.

Table and Season Impact

With the three points, Real Cartagena strengthen their promotion bid and keep pace with the front-runners in the Torneo BetPlay Dimayor standings. The clean sheet is especially valuable, as it confirms the balance between an aggressive attacking approach and a reliable defensive structure.

Patriotas FC remain in the lower half of the table and will need to regroup quickly. The result underlines the importance of away-game discipline in a division where direct play and set pieces can quickly change a match.
