Boca Juniors de Cali delivered a statement performance in the Torneo BetPlay Dimayor, dismantling Patriotas FC 4-1 at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero. The emphatic victory boosts the hosts' promotion ambitions while deepening Patriotas' concerns in the second division of Colombian football.

Match Overview

Played on September 27, 2026, the fixture pitted two sides with contrasting early-season form. Boca Juniors de Cali, known for their attacking flair, took the initiative from the first whistle. Patriotas FC, historically a tough defensive unit, struggled to contain the waves of pressure. The scoreline reflected the run of play, with Boca scoring twice in each half to secure all three points in front of their home supporters.

First Half: Early Breakthrough Sets the Tone

Boca Juniors needed just 12 minutes to open the scoring. A quick exchange down the right flank ended with a low cross that was clinically converted by striker Juan David Pérez. The goal settled the home side, who continued to dominate possession. Patriotas tried to respond through set pieces, but their best chance came from a free kick that sailed just over the crossbar. In the 34th minute, Boca doubled their lead when midfielder Andrés Felipe Roa unleashed a powerful drive from outside the box. The half ended 2-0, with Patriotas yet to register a shot on target.

Second Half: Patriotas Pull One Back, Boca Respond

The visitors came out with renewed urgency after the break and were rewarded in the 58th minute. A defensive lapse allowed Patriotas' forward Carlos Rivas to slot home from close range, halving the deficit. For a brief moment, the away side sensed a comeback. However, Boca Juniors quickly reasserted control. In the 67th minute, Pérez grabbed his second goal of the match, finishing off a sweeping team move. Ten minutes later, substitute Jhon Fredy Salazar added a fourth with a composed finish, sealing a comprehensive win.

Tactical Story

Boca Juniors de Cali set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation that overwhelmed Patriotas' midfield. Their high pressing forced turnovers in dangerous areas, and the constant movement of the front four created numerous openings. Patriotas, usually compact, were stretched repeatedly and failed to track runners from deep. Their consolation goal came against the run of play and did little to mask the defensive issues that have plagued them this season.

Standout Players

Juan David Pérez was the undisputed man of the match, scoring twice and linking play effectively. Andrés Felipe Roa controlled the tempo in midfield, while Jhon Fredy Salazar made an instant impact off the bench. For Patriotas, Carlos Rivas showed glimpses of quality, but he was largely isolated up front.

Season Impact

With this result, Boca Juniors de Cali strengthens their position in the upper half of the Torneo BetPlay Dimayor table, keeping pace with the early promotion contenders. Patriotas FC, meanwhile, remain in the lower reaches and will need to address their defensive frailties quickly if they are to climb the standings. The 4-1 scoreline sends a clear message: Boca Juniors are serious about returning to Colombia's top flight.
