Jiangsu Changjin produced a commanding 3-0 victory over Guangzhou Zhicheng in the Chinese Football Association Member Association Champions League on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, delivering one of their most complete performances of the campaign in front of their home supporters.

The hosts were dominant from the opening whistle, scoring inside the first quarter of an hour and never allowing Guangzhou Zhicheng a genuine route back into the contest. Two further goals after the interval turned a controlled lead into a statement result, and the clean sheet will have pleased the coaching staff just as much as the three goals at the other end.

Match Overview

Jiangsu Changjin set the tone almost immediately. Playing with a high tempo and aggressive pressing, they pinned Guangzhou Zhicheng deep inside their own half for long stretches and forced repeated turnovers in dangerous areas. The visitors, who had hoped to frustrate their hosts and hit on the counter, were simply never allowed to settle into that plan.

By the time the half-time whistle blew, the pattern of the match was firmly established: Jiangsu dictating the ball, Guangzhou defending in numbers, and the home side creating chances at a steady rate.

Key Moments

• 12 minutes – Jiangsu take the lead: Zhou Haodong opened the scoring with a composed finish after a quick exchange of passes on the edge of the box, setting the tone for the evening.
• 38 minutes – Guangzhou's best chance: The visitors' only real sight of goal came from a counter-attack, but a last-ditch challenge from the Jiangsu centre-back snuffed out the danger.
• 48 minutes – The decisive second: Straight after the restart, Xu Kaicheng doubled the advantage, arriving late at the back post to convert a low cross and effectively end the contest.
• 79 minutes – Three and done: Zhou Haodong added his second of the night, finishing confidently one-on-one after a slick through-ball split the Guangzhou defence.
• 90 minutes – Clean sheet secured: Guangzhou Zhicheng pushed forward late in search of a consolation, but Jiangsu's back line held firm to complete a comfortable shutout.

Tactical Story

Jiangsu Changjin's approach was built on winning the ball back high and attacking quickly. Their midfield trio pressed in a coordinated arc, cutting off Guangzhou's passing lanes into midfield and forcing long, hopeful clearances that were easily recycled. That territorial control gave them a platform to attack in waves, and their wide players consistently stretched the visiting defence.

The tempo of their passing was the standout feature of the performance. Rather than slowing the game down after taking the lead, Jiangsu kept the intensity high, and the second goal shortly after half-time was a direct reward for that aggression. Guangzhou Zhicheng, meanwhile, struggled to keep possession for more than a few passes at a time and were left chasing shadows for much of the match.

Defensively, Jiangsu were excellent. Their compact shape limited Guangzhou to speculative efforts from distance, and their goalkeeper was rarely tested despite the visitors' late push.

Standout Players

Zhou Haodong (Jiangsu Changjin) was the clear man of the match, scoring twice and constantly troubling the Guangzhou back line with his movement. His finishing was clinical, and his second goal capped a performance that underlined his importance to the side.

Xu Kaicheng (Jiangsu Changjin) was the creative engine, delivering the cross for the second goal and repeatedly finding space in behind the full-back. His energy on the flank gave Guangzhou problems all evening.

For Guangzhou Zhicheng, goalkeeper Huang Zhiyuan deserved credit despite conceding three, making several smart stops to prevent the scoreline from becoming even more one-sided.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Jiangsu Changjin's position in the standings and gives them real momentum heading into the next round of fixtures. Their goal difference also receives a welcome boost, which could prove valuable in a competition where group placement is often decided by fine margins.

For Guangzhou Zhicheng, it is a chastening night and one that leaves them needing a response. The defeat highlights the importance of finding a way to stay in games against the division's stronger sides, particularly when playing away from home.

Jiangsu Changjin will now look to carry this level of performance into their next outing, while Guangzhou Zhicheng will regroup and search for a result to steady their campaign in the Chinese Football Association Member Association Champions League.
