Viktoria Žižkov 3-0 Třinec: Dominant display boosts promotion hopes

FK Viktoria Žižkov produced a statement performance in the Chance Národní Liga, defeating FK Třinec 3-0 at the eFotbal Aréna on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Tomáš Urban, David Klusák and substitute Filip Havel sealed a comfortable victory that keeps the Prague club firmly in the promotion conversation.

The match, played in front of a lively home crowd, was controlled by Žižkov from the opening whistle. Třinec, who arrived looking to frustrate their hosts, struggled to contain the waves of attacks and rarely threatened the Žižkov goal.

Match overview

Žižkov lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Urban leading the line and Klusák pulling the strings in midfield. Třinec set up in a deep 4-4-2, hoping to hit on the counter. However, the home side's high press and quick ball circulation prevented the visitors from settling. The first half was one-way traffic, with Žižkov registering eight shots to Třinec's one. The second half followed a similar pattern, and once the second goal went in, the result was never in doubt.

Key moments

• 23' – Opening goal: Tomáš Urban latched onto a through ball from Klusák, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted into an empty net to make it 1-0.
• 57' – Doubling the lead: David Klusák curled a free-kick from 20 yards into the top corner, giving the Třinec keeper no chance.
• 81' – Sealing the points: Substitute Filip Havel added a third, finishing off a rapid counter-attack after Třinec had committed men forward.
• 88' – Late chance: Třinec's best opportunity fell to their striker, but his header was cleared off the line by Žižkov captain Petr Marek.

Tactical story

Žižkov's dominance stemmed from their midfield control. Klusák and Lukáš Novotný won the majority of second balls, allowing the full-backs to push high and create overloads out wide. Třinec's back four sat deep but failed to close down space between the lines, and Urban's movement constantly dragged defenders out of position. When Třinec did win possession, their transitions were slow, and Žižkov's counter-press immediately won the ball back. The visitors' only real spell of pressure came in the final ten minutes, by which time the game was gone.

Standout players

Tomáš Urban was a constant menace, scoring the opener and holding the ball up well. David Klusák dictated the tempo and scored a spectacular free-kick. For Třinec, goalkeeper Jakub Svoboda made several fine saves to keep the score respectable, while captain Martin Kučera worked tirelessly in midfield.

Season impact

With this win, Viktoria Žižkov move onto 17 points from their opening nine matches, climbing to fourth in the Chance Národní Liga table. Třinec remain in the relegation zone with just six points. The result extends Žižkov's unbeaten home run to five games and underlines their credentials as genuine promotion contenders. Třinec, meanwhile, face a crucial run of fixtures in October and will need to find goals quickly to avoid being cut adrift.
