Deportes La Serena claimed a convincing 3-1 home victory over Deportes Concepción in the Chilean Liga de Primera on 24 October 2026, turning a tightly contested first half into a clear three-point haul with a strong second-half performance at the Estadio La Portada. The win underlined La Serena’s attacking potential and gave their supporters a memorable night under the lights.

Match overview

La Serena started with purpose, pressing high and forcing Concepción into early mistakes. The home side’s intensity paid off when Bastián Rojas opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing calmly after a quick move down the right. Concepción responded well, though, and equalised in the 34th minute through Joaquín Muñoz, whose low strike from the edge of the box beat the goalkeeper after a period of sustained possession.

The scoreline remained level at half-time, but the momentum shifted decisively after the break. La Serena adjusted their shape, pushed their wingers higher and began to dominate the midfield. Rojas restored the lead in the 58th minute with a composed finish inside the area, and the home side controlled the game from that point onward.

Key moments

• 12’ – La Serena 1-0: Bastián Rojas finishes a flowing move to give the hosts an early advantage.
• 34’ – La Serena 1-1: Joaquín Muñoz equalises for Deportes Concepción with a precise low effort.
• 58’ – La Serena 2-1: Rojas strikes again after a clever build-up, restoring the home side’s lead.
• 81’ – La Serena 3-1: Tomás Cárdenas seals the win with a close-range finish after a corner-kick scramble.

Tactical story

La Serena’s success came from their willingness to press aggressively and win the ball in advanced areas. Their midfield trio worked tirelessly to close down Concepción’s passing lanes, and the full-backs provided constant width. Concepción looked dangerous on the counter in the first half but struggled to sustain pressure once La Serena tightened their defensive structure after the interval.

The home side’s second-half control was particularly impressive. They managed the tempo well, kept possession in midfield and created chances without leaving themselves exposed at the back. Concepción’s best moments came from quick transitions, but La Serena’s centre-back pairing dealt with crosses and through balls confidently.

Standout players

Bastián Rojas was the clear difference-maker, scoring twice and leading the line with intelligent movement. His ability to find space between the centre-backs caused Concepción problems all evening. Tomás Cárdenas also impressed, adding the third goal and controlling the midfield tempo. For Concepción, Joaquín Muñoz was their brightest spark, taking his goal well and testing the goalkeeper on another occasion.

Season impact

The three points strengthen La Serena’s position in the Liga de Primera standings and give them momentum for the next round of fixtures. Concepción, meanwhile, will be disappointed with the second-half collapse but can take encouragement from their first-half response. La Serena’s home form is becoming a key asset, and this performance will raise expectations around the club as the season progresses.
