Municipal Iquique delivered one of their most convincing performances of the CHI Liga de Ascenso season, defeating CD Magallanes 4-1 in a match that underlined their attacking quality and promotion ambitions. The hosts set the tone early at Estadio Tierra de Campeones and never allowed Magallanes to settle, turning a competitive first half into a clear and deserved victory.

Match overview

Municipal Iquique began with purpose, pressing high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. That approach produced an early breakthrough and forced CD Magallanes into a reactive posture. The visitors briefly narrowed the deficit before the interval, but the home side restored control after the break and pulled away with two further goals in the second half.

Final score: Municipal Iquique 4-1 CD Magallanes

Key moments

The opening goal came after a sustained spell of home pressure, with Municipal Iquique winning the ball in advanced areas and converting a low cross from the right. Magallanes responded with a period of possession and found a goal of their own before halftime, giving the scoreline a more balanced look than the run of play suggested.

The decisive moment arrived early in the second half, when Municipal Iquique restored their two-goal cushion with a well-worked move through the middle. A late fourth goal capped the performance and removed any doubt about the result, while Magallanes were left to reflect on a difficult defensive evening.

Tactical story

Municipal Iquique’s width was a major factor. Their full-backs pushed high, stretching Magallanes and creating space for central runners. The home midfield also controlled the second ball, allowing the team to sustain attacks and prevent the visitors from building rhythm. Magallanes showed flashes in transition but struggled to contain Municipal Iquique’s pressing and movement in the final third.

Standout performers

The home side’s centre-forward was central to the win, leading the line with strength and intelligent movement. Municipal Iquique’s midfield also deserve credit for their control and energy, while the defence limited Magallanes’ clearest chances after the restart. For the visitors, the goalkeeper made several saves that kept the scoreline respectable, but the team’s defensive structure was tested throughout.

Season impact

The three points strengthen Municipal Iquique’s position in the CHI Liga de Ascenso standings and add momentum to their promotion push. For CD Magallanes, the defeat is a setback that leaves little room for error in the coming fixtures. The result also highlights the attacking potential of a Municipal Iquique side that looks increasingly capable of competing at the top end of the table.
