HFX Wanderers FC 3-4 Supra Du Quebec: Seven-Goal Thriller Ends in Late Away Win

Supra Du Quebec edged HFX Wanderers FC 4-3 in a breathless Canadian Premier League encounter at Wanderers Grounds, turning a back-and-forth contest into a late away victory. The seven-goal match delivered everything expected from a late-October fixture with playoff implications: quick transitions, set-piece drama, goalkeeping saves under pressure, and a decisive goal in the closing stages.

HFX Wanderers FC started with the energy of a home side determined to control the tempo, while Supra Du Quebec grew into the game by attacking the space behind the Wanderers’ advanced full-backs. By the final whistle, the visitors had punished enough of those moments to leave with all three points in a result that will be remembered for its intensity and openness.

Match Overview

The contest was played at a high tempo from the opening minutes. HFX pressed aggressively, forcing turnovers in the middle third and looking to create shooting chances without allowing Supra to settle into possession. That approach produced an early breakthrough and gave the home crowd plenty of encouragement, but it also left space for Supra’s counter-attacks.

Supra Du Quebec responded well after falling behind, equalising through a well-worked set piece and then staying compact enough to absorb pressure. The game swung repeatedly after the break, with both teams committing numbers forward. HFX twice restored parity, but Supra found the final answer late on to secure a 4-3 win that underlined their attacking quality and resilience.

Tactical Story

HFX Wanderers FC’s plan was built on pressure. The home side pushed its midfield higher, tried to win second balls, and encouraged the full-backs to join attacks. That made HFX dangerous in transition and helped create the early lead, but it also left them exposed when Supra Du Quebec broke quickly.

Supra’s approach was more measured. The visitors defended in a mid-block, invited pressure in wide areas, and then looked to release runners into the channels. Their willingness to attack the space behind HFX’s defensive line proved decisive, especially in the second half when the game became stretched.

Set pieces also shaped the match. Supra’s equaliser came from a delivery that HFX failed to clear convincingly, and the visitors continued to look threatening from dead-ball situations. HFX, meanwhile, created enough chances to take something from the game, but their inability to protect leads at key moments proved costly.

Standout Players

HFX’s attacking wide players were central to the home side’s best moments, repeatedly stretching Supra’s back line and delivering dangerous balls into the box. The Wanderers’ midfield also deserves credit for maintaining the press for long spells, though the balance between attacking intent and defensive security never quite settled.

For Supra Du Quebec, the substitute forward who scored the late winner made the biggest impact. The visiting midfield also controlled important phases after halftime, slowing the game when needed and then accelerating through quick forward passes. Supra’s goalkeeper made several saves under pressure, including a crucial stop before the winning goal.

What the Result Means

The victory strengthens Supra Du Quebec’s position in the Canadian Premier League standings and gives the club momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. A 4-3 away win against a direct competitor carries extra weight, particularly because it came after conceding first and then twice surrendering the lead.
