Hafia FC 0-0 AS Douanes Nouakchott: CAF Confederation Cup Tie Stays Level

Hafia FC and AS Douanes Nouakchott cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw in their CAF Confederation Cup fixture, a result that leaves the tie wide open ahead of the decisive return leg.

For Hafia FC, one of African football's most storied names, the night will feel like an opportunity missed. For AS Douanes Nouakchott, a clean sheet away from home in continental competition is exactly the outcome a well-organised travelling side hopes for.

Match Overview

Hafia FC began the match with intent, pushing players forward and looking to use the support of the home crowd to establish an early lead. Their attacking midfielders found space between the lines in the opening half hour, and the Mauritanian visitors were forced into a number of blocks and clearances inside their own box.

AS Douanes Nouakchott weathered that early storm and gradually grew in confidence. Their midfield began to press higher and their defenders stepped up to compress the space Hafia's creative players wanted to exploit. By the second half, the contest had settled into a more balanced, cautious affair.

Key Moments

• Early pressure: Hafia's best spell came in the first twenty-five minutes, with two efforts from range forcing saves from the visiting goalkeeper.
• Off the frame: The closest either side came to a goal arrived when a header from a corner grazed the outside of the post.
• Counter-attacking threat: AS Douanes Nouakchott carved out a clear opening on the break, only for the final shot to be dragged wide.
• Late flurry: Hafia pushed hard in the closing stages, but a compact defensive block and some sharp goalkeeping preserved the clean sheet.

Tactical Story

The game was a meeting of contrasting styles. Hafia FC wanted to play through the thirds, rotating possession and probing for openings with short, sharp combinations. AS Douanes Nouakchott were more pragmatic, defending in a disciplined block and looking to transition quickly through their front players when possession was recovered.

The longer the match went without a goal, the more the visitors' plan worked. Hafia's build-up became slower, their crosses more speculative, and the space between midfield and attack grew larger as they pushed men forward in search of a winner.

Standout Performers

The AS Douanes Nouakchott goalkeeper was the outstanding player on the pitch, handling crosses confidently and producing two saves when the pressure was at its highest. Their central defenders showed excellent concentration and timed their tackles well. For Hafia FC, the captain drove the team forward relentlessly, while the wide attackers were the most consistent source of danger.

What the Result Means

The CAF Confederation Cup is a competition rich in history, and Hafia FC's involvement in it carries real weight given the club's heritage. That context only makes a home goalless draw more frustrating, and the second leg now becomes a genuine test of character.

AS Douanes Nouakchott, meanwhile, will be delighted. A scoreless draw on the road means that a single goal at home could be enough to progress, and their defensive organisation suggests they are capable of protecting a lead. For Hafia, the message is simple: take the chances that come, because in knockout football, they rarely come twice.
