Academie de FAD and CS Sfaxien played out a 1-1 draw in the CAF Confederation Cup on 18 October 2026, with both sides taking a point from a competitive continental encounter. The match was closely fought, featuring spells of pressure from each team and a second half that opened up as both sides searched for a winning goal.

Match overview

Academie de FAD began the game with energy and looked comfortable in possession, using short passes to build moves through midfield. Their early pressure created a few promising moments, and they were rewarded with the opening goal after a well-constructed attack. The home side’s movement and willingness to press high gave CS Sfaxien problems in the first half.

CS Sfaxien, however, responded with the experience expected of a side with a strong continental pedigree. The Tunisian club gradually gained control of the midfield and began to create chances of their own. Their equaliser came before the game slipped away from them, and it was a goal that reflected their persistence and ability to punish opponents when they switch off defensively.

Key moments

The opening goal gave Academie de FAD confidence, and for a while they looked capable of adding a second. But CS Sfaxien’s equaliser changed the momentum. The visitors finished the first half strongly and carried that momentum into the second period, forcing the home goalkeeper into a few important saves. At the other end, Academie de FAD remained dangerous on the break, and both teams had chances to win it late on.

The closing stages were tense. CS Sfaxien pushed for a winner, while Academie de FAD looked to hit them on the counter. A couple of set-pieces and long-range efforts kept both goalkeepers alert, but neither side could find the decisive finish. The final whistle brought a draw that felt fair on the balance of play.

Tactical story

Academie de FAD’s plan was based on quick passing and energetic pressing. They tried to deny CS Sfaxien time on the ball and force mistakes in the visitors’ half. That worked well in patches, particularly during the opening 30 minutes, but the home side found it harder to maintain that intensity as the match progressed.

CS Sfaxien adjusted well after conceding. They used their experience to slow the tempo, keep possession, and draw fouls in useful areas. Their midfield became more influential, and their equaliser came from a period of sustained pressure. Defensively, they were not entirely comfortable against Academie de FAD’s pace, but they showed enough composure to avoid defeat.

Standout performers

Academie de FAD’s attacking players caused problems with their movement, and the goalscorer was rewarded for intelligent positioning inside the box. The home goalkeeper made important saves in the second half. For CS Sfaxien, the midfield anchor was influential in regaining control after the early setback, while their equalising scorer showed the kind of clinical awareness that top continental sides rely on.

What the result means

The draw leaves both teams with something to build on in the CAF Confederation Cup. Academie de FAD will take heart from competing strongly against experienced opposition, but they may feel they let two points slip after taking the lead. CS Sfaxien, meanwhile, will value the away point and the character shown in coming from behind. In a competition where away performances are often decisive, this result could prove useful as the campaign develops.
