Full-time score: Enugu Rangers International 2-0 MC Alger

Enugu Rangers International seized control of their CAF Champions League tie with a disciplined 2-0 home victory over MC Alger, combining energetic pressing with two well-taken goals. The Nigerian side produced a strong team performance in front of their supporters, while MC Alger were left to rue missed chances and a lack of cutting edge away from home.

Match overview

Rangers started with high intensity, pressing MC Alger’s defenders and forcing errors in the build-up. The early pressure paid off in the 18th minute when a corner was only partially cleared, and the loose ball was driven home through a crowd of players. MC Alger responded with a spell of possession, but Rangers’ goalkeeper was rarely troubled in the first half.

The second goal arrived just after the hour mark, and it was a moment of quality. Rangers’ midfielder received the ball on the edge of the box, shifted it onto his stronger foot, and curled a precise effort into the far corner. MC Alger pushed forward in the final 20 minutes, but Rangers defended with maturity and kept their clean sheet intact.

Key moments

• Rangers opened the scoring in the 18th minute from a corner-kick scramble.
• MC Alger’s best chance of the first half came from a free-kick that sailed just over the bar.
• Rangers doubled their lead in the 63rd minute with a curling strike from outside the box.
• MC Alger forced two late saves, but Rangers held firm for a clean sheet.

Tactical story

Enugu Rangers’ high-energy pressing was central to their success. They closed down MC Alger’s midfielders quickly, forcing long balls that were easily defended. The full-backs provided width in attack, while the midfield trio worked hard to win second balls and sustain pressure.

MC Alger struggled to cope with Rangers’ pace in transition. They had moments of possession but lacked penetration, often settling for crosses that were comfortably cleared. Rangers’ defensive line stayed compact and limited space behind the defence, making it difficult for MC Alger to find a way back into the game.

Standout performers

Rangers’ central midfielder was excellent, combining tireless running with the quality to score the second goal. The centre-backs were dominant in the air and composed on the ball, while the goalkeeper made two important late saves. For MC Alger, the goalkeeper kept the score down with several stops, but the attacking players struggled to make an impact.

What the result means

The 2-0 home win gives Enugu Rangers International a strong platform heading into the return leg of the CAF Champions League tie. The clean sheet is especially valuable, as it means MC Alger will need to score at least twice in the second leg. Rangers will travel with confidence, but they will need another disciplined defensive display to finish the job.
