Tactical story

ASEC’s high press caused problems early, but it also left space behind their midfield once Maghreb Fez adjusted. The visitors began finding pockets between the lines and used quick vertical passes to bypass pressure. Maghreb Fez’s decision to sit slightly deeper in the final 15 minutes protected the lead and forced ASEC into crosses that were well defended.

Standout performers

Maghreb Fez’s attacking midfielder was the game’s most influential player, linking moves and creating the equaliser. The forward who scored the winner showed excellent movement and composure. For ASEC Mimosas, the left winger was a constant threat in the first half, but the hosts lacked the same sharpness after the interval.

What the result means

Maghreb Fez take three important points and a confidence boost from a difficult away fixture, while ASEC Mimosas are left to reflect on a missed opportunity after a strong start. The result tightens the group standings and makes the next round of CAF Champions League matches even more significant for both clubs.
