Yaounde FC II secured a comfortable 2-0 away victory over Ngoketunjia United FA in the Cameroon Elite Two on Saturday, a result that strengthens their promotion push. Goals in either half were enough to overcome a determined but wasteful home side.

Clinical Efficiency from Yaounde

The visitors took the lead in the 22nd minute. A swift passing move through midfield freed winger Jean-Pierre Ekambi on the left, and his low cross found striker Samuel Mbah, who swept the ball into the net from six yards out. Ngoketunjia United responded well, with forward Patrick Nkeng forcing a save from Yaounde goalkeeper Michel Owona moments later.

The first half settled into a pattern of Ngoketunjia holding possession but lacking incision, while Yaounde looked dangerous on the counter. The visitors doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when midfielder Brice Ngana intercepted a poor pass, drove forward, and unleashed a powerful shot from 25 yards that beat the home keeper at his near post.

Ngoketunjia's Struggle for Rhythm

Despite creating several half-chances, Ngoketunjia United could not find a way past a well-organized Yaounde defence. Captain Eric Tchouta missed a clear header from a corner in the 75th minute, and Nkeng had a goal correctly disallowed for offside in the 82nd minute. The home side's frustration boiled over in stoppage time when defender Alain Mbock received a second yellow card for a reckless challenge.

Promotion Race Heats Up

The win lifts Yaounde FC II into 3rd place in the Elite Two standings with 27 points from 16 matches, just three points behind the automatic promotion places. Ngoketunjia United remain in 9th position with 18 points, now seven points adrift of the top half. For Yaounde, maintaining this form could see them challenging for a top-two finish in the second half of the season.

Yaounde next host mid-table side Dragon FC, while Ngoketunjia face a tricky away trip to league leaders Fovu Club.
