FC Bayern Munich produced a professional away performance to beat SC Freiburg 3-1 at the Europa-Park Stadion on Sunday night, extending their strong run in the Bundesliga. Goals in each half gave Bayern control, and although Freiburg pulled one back late on, the visitors were never seriously threatened after taking the lead.

Match overview

Bayern dominated the early possession and needed only 18 minutes to open the scoring, cutting through Freiburg’s midfield with a sharp passing move before finishing from inside the box. Freiburg responded with energy and pressed higher, but Bayern’s defenders dealt with the danger and the visitors doubled their lead early in the second half.

The third goal arrived in the 76th minute after another quick transition, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Freiburg scored a consolation goal in the closing stages through a well-taken set-piece, but Bayern saw out the remaining minutes comfortably.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Bayern take the lead with a low finish after a patient build-up through midfield.
• 52nd minute: Bayern double their advantage, finishing a cross from the right with a header at the back post.
• 76th minute: A fast counter-attack ends with a clinical finish into the bottom corner for 3-0.
• 88th minute: Freiburg pull one back with a header from a corner.

Tactical story

Bayern’s pressing game forced Freiburg into long balls and limited their ability to build from the back. The visitors’ midfield won the majority of second balls, allowing them to sustain attacks and pin Freiburg in their own half for long periods. Freiburg’s best moments came from set pieces and wide deliveries, but they struggled to create clear chances from open play.

Standout performers

Bayern’s left-sided attacker was a constant threat, combining with the full-back and creating the second goal with a precise cross. The central midfielder controlled the tempo and was excellent in transition, while the centre-backs dealt with Freiburg’s aerial threat for most of the night. Freiburg’s goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score down, and their captain in midfield never stopped working.

Table impact

The win keeps Bayern at the top end of the Bundesliga standings and underlines their ability to win away from home without hitting top gear for the full 90 minutes. Freiburg remain in the upper-middle region of the table and will take encouragement from their late goal, but this was a reminder of the gap between the sides.

Bayern now look ahead to their next fixture with confidence, while Freiburg must regroup and find a stronger response in their upcoming Bundesliga matches.
