Rilski sportist stormed into the next round of the Bulgarian Cup with a ruthless 4-0 away victory over FC Zagorets on Sunday, October 4, 2026. It was a performance of clinical efficiency and defensive control, as the visitors scored early, absorbed pressure, and then punished their hosts repeatedly on the break.

Rilski sportist needed only 14 minutes to open the scoring. A sharp passing sequence cut through Zagorets’ midfield, and the forward finished with composure into the bottom corner. The early goal forced Zagorets to push forward, which only created more space for the visitors. Rilski doubled their lead in the 31st minute with a powerful strike from outside the box, and the tie began to look beyond the home side.

FC Zagorets tried to respond after the interval, but their evening went from bad to worse in the 40th minute when they were reduced to ten men after a straight red card for a reckless challenge. From that point, the comeback was always unlikely.

Match overview

Rilski sportist managed the second half perfectly. They kept possession, slowed the game when needed, and struck again in the 56th minute through a well-placed header from a corner. The fourth goal in the 79th minute was the best of the night: a rapid counterattack finished with a low shot across the goalkeeper. The final whistle confirmed a dominant cup win.

Zagorets had moments of possession but rarely threatened the Rilski goalkeeper. Their best chance came just before half-time, but a last-ditch block kept the score at 2-0 and prevented any hint of a revival.

Key moments

• 14’ – Zagorets 0-1: A quick passing move opens the scoring for Rilski sportist.
• 31’ – Zagorets 0-2: A long-range strike doubles the visitors’ advantage.
• 40’ – Red card: Zagorets are reduced to ten men after a dangerous challenge.

Tactical story

Rilski sportist set up to press aggressively in the first half and then defend their lead with intelligence. Their midfield blocked central passes, forcing Zagorets wide and making crosses easier to defend. With a man advantage after the red card, they controlled the ball and waited for mistakes.

Zagorets’ game plan of building from the back backfired against such a sharp pressing side. Once they lost the second goal, their confidence dropped, and the sending-off removed any realistic chance of a comeback.

Standout players

Rilski’s forward was excellent, scoring the opener and leading the line with intelligence. The midfielder who scored from distance also stood out, while the centre-back who headed the third goal was dominant in both boxes. For Zagorets, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, but the team’s night was defined by the red card and their inability to handle Rilski’s transitions.

Season impact

The win sends Rilski sportist into the next round of the Bulgarian Cup with momentum and confidence. For FC Zagorets, the focus now shifts to league duties and recovering from a difficult cup exit. Cup football can be cruel, and this was a harsh lesson in the cost of defensive errors against a ruthless opponent.
