SC Eendracht Aalst edged a seven-goal thriller against Zulte-Waregem II, winning 4-3 in an extraordinary BSA D encounter on Sunday evening. The match was a rollercoaster from start to finish, with both teams showing attacking flair but also defensive frailty in a game that will be remembered for its entertainment value.

Match Overview

Aalst raced into an early lead and looked to be in control, but Zulte-Waregem II responded well and dragged themselves back into the contest. The first half alone produced four goals, with Aalst holding a narrow advantage at the break. The second half was equally frantic, as Zulte-Waregem II equalised midway through, only for Aalst to score twice more before a late consolation set up a tense finish.

In the end, Aalst's attacking quality proved just enough to secure all three points, but the defensive performance will give their coaching staff plenty to work on.

Key Moments

• Aalst's fast start: The hosts took the lead inside the first 10 minutes with a well-taken goal from close range.
• Zulte-Waregem II hit back: The visitors equalised soon after, catching Aalst cold at the back.
• Four-goal first half: Aalst regained the lead and then scored again before the break to make it 3-1 at half time.
• Second-half drama: Zulte-Waregem II pulled one back, Aalst scored a fourth, and the visitors set up a nervy finale with a late third.
• Late saves: Aalst's goalkeeper made a crucial stop in stoppage time to preserve the win.

Tactical Story

Both teams adopted attack-minded formations, with Aalst in a 4-3-3 and Zulte-Waregem II in a 4-2-3-1. The midfield areas were often bypassed as both sides looked to play direct, vertical football. Aalst's wingers were a constant threat, stretching the visitors' defence and creating space for the central striker. However, the hosts' high defensive line was repeatedly exposed by Zulte-Waregem II's quick forwards.

Zulte-Waregem II, a youthful and energetic side, never stopped running and caused problems with their pace and movement. Their equaliser in the second half was deserved, but defensive lapses at crucial moments cost them dear. Aalst, for their part, showed character to keep scoring at important times, even if their game management left something to be desired.

Standout Players

Aalst's centre-forward was the star of the show, scoring twice and leading the line with intelligence and power. Their creative midfielder also impressed with two assists. For Zulte-Waregem II, the young striker who scored a brace was a constant menace, and their goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score from becoming even more emphatic. It was a game that showcased the best and worst of both teams.

Table and Season Impact

This victory gives Aalst a valuable three points in the BSA D and keeps them in touch with the leading pack. The seven goals scored and conceded, however, highlight the need for greater defensive solidity if they are to sustain a promotion challenge. Zulte-Waregem II, meanwhile, will take heart from their fighting spirit and attacking output, but they remain frustrated by a result that slipped away.

For neutrals, it was a spectacular advert for the division. For the coaches, it was a night of mixed emotions. Aalst will savour the win, but both sides know there is plenty to work on before their next fixture.
