Avaí FC 0-2 Botafogo SP: Botafogo Take Away Win in Brazilian Serie B

Botafogo SP produced a disciplined away performance to beat Avaí FC 2-0 in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B on 25 October 2026. At the Estádio da Ressacada, the visitors scored once in the first half and added a decisive second late in the game, leaving Avaí with plenty of possession but no reward.

Match overview

Avaí FC started the match with intent, pushing bodies forward and trying to use the width of the Ressacada pitch. Botafogo SP, however, were content to absorb pressure and strike through quick transitions. That approach paid off in the 31st minute when a midfield turnover allowed Botafogo SP to break into space and finish calmly inside the penalty area.

The home side responded before half-time and created their best chance of the opening period, but a header from a right-sided cross drifted wide. After the interval, Avaí increased the tempo and forced several set pieces, yet Botafogo SP’s defensive shape held firm. The second goal arrived in the 78th minute on a counter-attack, effectively ending Avaí’s comeback hopes.

• 64th minute: Avaí appeal for a penalty after a challenge in the box, but the referee waves play on.

Tactical story

Avaí FC played with a high line and looked to dominate the ball through midfield, but their final pass repeatedly broke down against a compact Botafogo SP block. The visitors defended narrow, forced Avaí wide and then used their forwards to exploit the space left behind. Botafogo SP’s mid-block was especially effective in the first hour, when Avaí struggled to find clear shooting angles.

As the game opened up, Botafogo SP became more dangerous. Their second goal was a textbook away performance: a quick regain, a direct pass into the channel and a finish taken without hesitation. Avaí pushed their full-backs higher in the final 20 minutes, but that only increased the space Botafogo SP needed to counter.

Standout performers

Botafogo SP’s goalkeeper was reliable when called upon, while the central defence dealt well with Avaí’s crosses and second-ball pressure. The visiting No. 9 led the line intelligently, holding up possession and finishing the second goal with real composure. For Avaí, the midfield playmaker was the most creative outlet, but the home side lacked a decisive final touch in the penalty area.

Table and season impact

The 2-0 result gives Botafogo SP an important three points in the Serie B standings and strengthens their position in the race for the promotion play-off places. For Avaí FC, the defeat leaves them with work to do as they look to close the gap to the top six. The home side’s possession stats will look healthy, but the scoreline highlights the difference between control and cutting edge in a competitive Brazilian Serie B campaign.
