Novorizontino Edge Atlético-GO 1-0 in Serie B Away Win

Grêmio Novorizontino claimed a 1-0 away victory over Atlético Clube Goianiense in Brazilian Serie B on 25 October 2026, with a second-half goal proving enough in a hard-fought contest at the Estádio Antônio Accioly. The visitors defended resolutely and took their decisive chance when it arrived, leaving Atlético-GO to rue a series of missed opportunities.

Match overview

Atlético-GO started with intent, pushing numbers forward and trying to stretch Novorizontino’s back line with early crosses. The home side had the better share of the ball in the opening half, but clear chances were rare against a well-drilled opponent. Novorizontino sat compactly, absorbed pressure and looked to spring forward through quick transitions.

The breakthrough came in the second half, when Novorizontino converted a well-delivered ball into the box. Atlético-GO responded with urgency and pushed for an equaliser, but the visitors’ goalkeeper and central defenders held firm through a tense final stretch.

Key moments

• 21st minute: Atlético-GO create the first meaningful chance, but the shot is blocked inside the area.
• 58th minute: Novorizontino score the only goal of the game after a dangerous delivery from the right.
• 73rd minute: Atlético-GO appeal for a penalty, but the referee waves play on.
• 89th minute: Atlético-GO hit a late effort off target as Novorizontino see out the win.

Tactical story

Atlético-GO’s plan was built on sustained possession and overlapping runs from the full-backs, but Novorizontino’s defensive block made it difficult to find clean entries into the penalty area. The visitors narrowed the central spaces and forced Atlético-GO to play around them rather than through them.

Novorizontino’s winning goal came from exactly the kind of moment they had been waiting for: a quick attack that caught Atlético-GO with too many players committed forward. After taking the lead, the visitors dropped deeper and defended their box with discipline, clearing crosses and blocking shots when Atlético-GO increased the pressure.

Standout performers

Novorizontino’s goalkeeper was central to the result, making a pair of important saves in the second half and dealing confidently with crosses. The back line as a whole was excellent, particularly the central defender who repeatedly cleared danger and won key aerial duels. For Atlético-GO, the midfield kept working until the final whistle, but the home side lacked the finishing touch in the decisive moments.

Table impact

The win is a significant boost for Novorizontino’s Serie B campaign, strengthening their position in the promotion race and underlining their ability to win on the road. Atlético-GO remain with work to do after a frustrating home defeat, especially given the spells of control they enjoyed without reward. In a division where fine margins often decide promotion and relegation battles, Novorizontino’s ability to turn a tight match into three points could prove especially valuable.
