Vasco da Gama Youth Demolish Rio Branco ES Youth 11-0 in Brazilian Youth Cup

Vasco da Gama Youth produced one of the most emphatic performances of the Brazilian Youth Cup season, thrashing Rio Branco ES Youth 11-0 on September 18, 2026. The match, played at Vasco’s training complex, was a total mismatch from the first whistle as the young Cruz-Maltino scored at will, registering double figures in a display of ruthless attacking football. The result sends a clear message to the rest of the competition about Vasco’s attacking potential.

Match Overview

Vasco da Gama Youth started with intense pressing and never allowed Rio Branco ES Youth to settle. The opening goal arrived in the 4th minute when Lucas Marques finished clinically from inside the box. That set the tone. By the 20th minute, Vasco led 4-0, with Marques adding his second and Gabriel Silva scoring a quick brace. Rio Branco’s defence was overwhelmed by the speed of Vasco’s wing play and the relentless runs from midfield.

The second half was more of the same. Vasco added seven more goals, including a stunning 30-yard strike from captain Rafael Costa and a hat-trick completed by substitute Pedro Henrique in the final 20 minutes. Rio Branco ES Youth, who had no answer to the press, managed only one shot on target all game and were visibly demoralised as the goals piled up.

Key Moments

• 4’ – 1-0: Lucas Marques opens the scoring after a high turnover.
• 12’ – 2-0: Gabriel Silva curls a shot into the far corner.
• 18’ – 3-0: Marques taps in from close range after a flowing team move.
• 45+2’ – 6-0: Rafael Costa scores a spectacular long-range effort just before half-time.
• 67’ – 8-0: Pedro Henrique scores his first, finishing a counterattack.

Tactical Story

Vasco da Gama Youth lined up in a 4-2-3-1 that morphed into a 4-1-4-1 when pressing. Their midfield trio constantly won the ball back in Rio Branco’s half, and the front four rotated fluidly, making it impossible for the opposition to mark individually. Rio Branco ES Youth attempted to defend with a low block but were undone by Vasco’s quick ball circulation and overlapping full-backs.

The most striking aspect was Vasco’s efficiency: they scored 11 goals from 18 shots on target, a conversion rate that reflects both clinical finishing and the sheer number of high-quality chances created. Rio Branco’s goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score from being even higher.

Standout Players

• Lucas Marques: Scored four goals and assisted one, tormenting the right-back all game.
• Gabriel Silva: A hat-trick and two assists from the left wing.
• Pedro Henrique: Came off the bench to score three goals in 25 minutes.
• Rafael Costa: Controlled the tempo from midfield and scored a memorable goal.

Brazilian Youth Cup Impact

The win strengthens Vasco da Gama Youth’s position at the top of their group and significantly boosts their goal difference, which could prove decisive in the knockout stage seeding. For Rio Branco ES Youth, the defeat is a harsh learning experience, but they remain in contention for a consolation spot. Vasco’s coaching staff will be delighted with the attacking cohesion, though they will also be mindful of tougher tests ahead in the Brazilian Youth Cup.
