FC Samambaia U20 edged a tightly contested Brazilian Youth Championship fixture with a 1-0 victory over Gremio Esportivo Brazlandia U20 on Saturday. A solitary goal in the first half was enough to separate the two sides, with Samambaia’s defensive resilience proving decisive.

A game of few chances

The match was a tactical battle from the outset, with both teams cautious in possession and reluctant to commit too many players forward. Samambaia created the first real opening in the 17th minute when Lucas Mendes volleyed just wide from a corner.

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute. A quick throw-in caught the Brazlandia defence off guard, and winger Rafael Santos cut inside before curling a left-footed shot into the far corner. It was the only moment of real quality in an otherwise scrappy first half.

The visitors’ best chance came ten minutes from time when a shot from Pedro Henrique was cleared off the line.

Samambaia nearly doubled their lead on a counter-attack in stoppage time, but the shot was saved. Ultimately, the single goal proved sufficient.
