Cruzeiro Women edged a remarkable seven-goal thriller against Atlético Mineiro Women in the BRA W MG competition on 11 October 2026, winning 4-3 after a second-half fightback from the hosts had threatened to steal the points. It was a derby that delivered everything supporters could ask for: goals, momentum swings, and a late winner that settles a classic Minas Gerais rivalry.

Match Overview

The visitors started the brighter and established a two-goal cushion before the half-hour mark, playing with the sort of sharp combination football that has made Cruzeiro one of the leading forces in the Minas Gerais women's game. Atlético Mineiro, however, refused to fold. A goal before the break gave them a foothold, and the second half turned into a breathless exchange of attacks.

Twice the hosts drew level, and twice Cruzeiro found another gear. The decisive fourth goal arrived in the closing stages, capping an evening of relentless attacking football and handing Cruzeiro a victory that will be remembered as one of the standout matches of the campaign.

Tactical Story

Cruzeiro's control in the first half came from their ability to overload the wide areas and deliver early crosses before Atlético's defensive line could set. Their midfield pressed aggressively, forcing turnovers in dangerous positions and allowing them to attack against an unsettled back four.

Atlético Mineiro's revival was built on a half-time adjustment that pushed an extra body into central midfield and encouraged the full-backs to advance. That gave the hosts numerical superiority in the middle and turned the game into an end-to-end contest. Crucially, however, the increased attacking ambition left them vulnerable to the counter-attack, and Cruzeiro's late winner came from exactly that scenario — a turnover followed by a quick, direct break.

Standout Players

Cruzeiro's forward line shared the attacking burden impressively, with two goals from open play and a constant threat in behind the defence. Their attacking midfielder was the creative hub of the performance, involved in the build-up to several goals and dictating the rhythm of the visitors' best spells.

For Atlético Mineiro, the captain led by example in the second-half comeback, and the goalscorer who made it 3-3 showed excellent composure under pressure. The home goalkeeper, despite conceding four, made two important saves that kept the scoreline respectable and gave her team the platform to fight back.

Season Impact

Derby victories carry extra weight, and this result gives Cruzeiro both three points and a psychological edge in the BRA W MG standings. Their attacking output has been one of the stories of the season, and a win of this character — on the road, against a fierce rival, after surrendering a two-goal lead — says a great deal about their mentality.

Atlético Mineiro Women can take plenty from the performance even in defeat. Twice coming from behind against a leading side demonstrates real resilience, and the quality of their second-half display suggests they will collect plenty of points in the weeks ahead. The rematch promises to be one of the most anticipated fixtures on the calendar.
