Macaé and AA Carapebus produced one of the most entertaining matches of the Campeonato Carioca C season, with Macaé emerging as 4-3 winners on October 4, 2026, after a dramatic seven-goal contest at the Estádio Cláudio Moacyr de Azevedo.

A seven-goal classic in the Campeonato Carioca C

The game had everything: early goals, a remarkable comeback, defensive errors, and a late winner that sent the home supporters into raptures. Macaé started brightly and raced into a two-goal lead, playing with confidence and moving the ball quickly through the thirds. AA Carapebus looked shaken but refused to fold, pulling one back before halftime to keep the contest alive.

Early in the second half, Carapebus completed their comeback with two quick goals, stunning the home side and turning the match on its head. Macaé, who had looked comfortable, suddenly found themselves trailing 3-2 and in danger of a damaging defeat. Their response, however, was emphatic.

Key moments of the match

• Fast start: Macaé scored twice inside the opening half hour, capitalizing on defensive mistakes.
• Carapebus lifeline: A well-taken goal before the break gave the visitors belief.
• Comeback complete: Carapebus scored twice early in the second half to lead 3-2.
• Macaé equalizer: A powerful header from a corner made it 3-3.
• Late winner: Macaé found the decisive goal in the closing minutes after a swift counterattack.

Tactical story: attack wins the day

Macaé's approach was built on quick transitions and overlapping full-backs. In the first half, that strategy overwhelmed Carapebus, who struggled to handle the pace of the home side's wide players. But Macaé's aggressive positioning also left them vulnerable, and Carapebus exposed those gaps during their second-half comeback.

Carapebus showed great character to fight back from two goals down. Their midfielders began to win second balls and their forwards made intelligent runs in behind. For a period, they looked the more likely winners. Yet Macaé's set-piece threat and counterattacking speed proved decisive, allowing them to reclaim the match in the final stages.

Standout performers

Macaé's attacking midfielder was the best player on the pitch, involved in three of his team's four goals. He dictated tempo, delivered dangerous set pieces, and kept his composure when the game became chaotic. The Macaé striker also deserves credit for his movement and hold-up play. For AA Carapebus, the forward who scored twice in the comeback was a constant menace, while their goalkeeper made several fine saves to keep the score from becoming even more lopsided.

What the result means

The victory is a significant one for Macaé in the Campeonato Carioca C standings. It keeps them in contention for promotion and reinforces their reputation as one of the division's most dangerous attacking teams. AA Carapebus, despite the loss, can take heart from their fighting spirit and will know that such performances will earn points against other opponents.

For neutral fans, this was a showcase of everything that makes the Campeonato Carioca C compelling: local rivalries, open football, and unpredictable results. Macaé will look to build on the win, while Carapebus must regroup quickly and tighten a defense that has now conceded seven goals in a single match.
