Niteroiense earned a disciplined 2-0 away win against Duque de Caxias RJ in the Campeonato Carioca C on September 27, 2026. Goals in each half and a solid defensive display gave the visitors all three points in a competitive Rio de Janeiro state league encounter.

Match Overview

Duque de Caxias RJ started with more possession and tried to build attacks through midfield, but Niteroiense were organized and patient. The visitors defended in a compact block, limited space between the lines, and looked dangerous whenever they won the ball back. The opening goal came midway through the first half and changed the rhythm of the match.

After taking the lead, Niteroiense controlled the game without dominating the ball. Duque de Caxias increased their pressure in the second half, but clear chances were rare. A second goal on the counterattack sealed the win and left the home side frustrated.

Key Moments

• 28’ – Duque de Caxias RJ 0-1 Niteroiense: Lucas Silva scored with a precise low finish after a quick break down the left.
• 72’ – Duque de Caxias RJ 0-2 Niteroiense: Rafael Costa doubled the lead, finishing calmly after a defensive mistake.
• 84’ – Duque de Caxias RJ miss chance: The home side’s best opportunity came from a set-piece, but the header went wide.

Tactical Story

Niteroiense set up to frustrate Duque de Caxias, using a narrow midfield to close central passing lanes. Their two banks of four stayed compact, and their forwards worked hard to press the first pass. When they won possession, they attacked directly, targeting the space behind Duque’s advanced full-backs.

Duque de Caxias had more of the ball but struggled to turn possession into clear chances. Their crosses were dealt with comfortably, and their midfielders were forced to shoot from distance. Niteroiense’s game management in the final 20 minutes was excellent, as they slowed the tempo and protected their lead.

Standout Players

Lucas Silva was influential for Niteroiense, scoring the opening goal and linking play in the final third. Rafael Costa’s second goal was the reward for his relentless running. The Niteroiense goalkeeper also deserved credit for a clean sheet and a crucial save at 1-0. For Duque de Caxias, the captain tried to drive the team forward, but the attacking unit lacked sharpness in the final third.

What the Result Means

Niteroiense collect a valuable away win and strengthen their position in the Campeonato Carioca C standings. The three points will boost confidence, especially after a performance built on defensive discipline and efficient finishing. Duque de Caxias RJ remain under pressure, and their search for consistency continues. In a state league where every point matters, Niteroiense’s ability to win on the road could prove crucial.
