Duque de Caxias Edge Audax Rio 1-0 in Campeonato Carioca C

Duque de Caxias RJ claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Audax Rio RJ in the Brazilian Campeonato Carioca C on October 11, 2026. A second-half goal at the Estádio Romário de Souza Faria was enough to separate two teams who knew the value of three points in a tightly contested state championship.

The match was physical, tactical, and low on clear-cut chances until Duque de Caxias found the breakthrough. Audax Rio pushed for an equalizer late on, but the home defence held firm to secure a valuable clean sheet.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair. Duque de Caxias tried to build from the back, while Audax Rio pressed aggressively and looked to win the ball high. Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested in the opening 30 minutes, with both midfields cancelling each other out.

The decisive moment arrived in the 63rd minute. Léo Itaperuna latched onto a clever through ball, held off his marker, and drilled a low shot into the far corner. Audax Rio responded with urgency, bringing on fresh attackers and switching to a more direct style, but Duque de Caxias defended their box with composure.

Tactical Story

Duque de Caxias lined up in a disciplined 4-4-2, focusing on defensive shape and quick counter-attacks. Audax Rio had more possession but struggled to break down a compact back line. The home side’s midfield screened the defence effectively, forcing Audax into hopeful crosses and long-range shots.

The winning goal came from exactly the kind of transition Duque de Caxias had planned for. After winning the ball in midfield, they moved it forward quickly and caught Audax Rio’s defence out of position. From there, the home team managed the game intelligently, slowing the tempo and taking the sting out of Audax’s comeback attempts.

Standout Players

Léo Itaperuna was the match-winner, and his hold-up play also helped Duque de Caxias relieve pressure. The goalkeeper deserved credit for a late save that preserved the three points. For Audax Rio, the midfield captain worked tirelessly and created several half-chances, but the team lacked a finishing touch in the final third.

Campeonato Carioca C Table Impact

The victory boosts Duque de Caxias in the Campeonato Carioca C standings and keeps their campaign on track. Audax Rio remain within reach of the competitive positions but will regret not turning possession into goals. In a state championship where away form is often decisive, this narrow home win could prove important come the end of the group stage.

Duque de Caxias will look to build on the clean sheet, while Audax Rio must find more cutting edge in their next fixture. The teams’ head-to-head now favors Duque de Caxias, adding another layer to what is already a fascinating Carioca C season.
