Petrolina PE produced a confident attacking display to beat 1 de Maio FC 3-1 in the Brazilian Pernambucano League on 29 October 2026, with a first-half opener and a second-half surge securing a deserved three points. Tactical story

Petrolina’s 4-3-3 was built on aggressive pressing and quick switches of play. Their midfield trio consistently won second balls, allowing the wide forwards to attack isolated defenders. The home side’s full-backs also pushed high, creating overloads that 1 de Maio FC struggled to contain, particularly in the second half. When Petrolina won possession in advanced areas, they attacked with numbers and looked capable of scoring every time they broke forward.

1 de Maio FC’s 4-2-3-1 offered glimpses of quality in possession, especially during the period that produced their equaliser, but they were too easily exposed when turnovers occurred. The visitors’ defensive line dropped deep after the interval, inviting pressure, and Petrolina’s patience in circulation eventually created the gaps for the second and third goals.

Standout performers

Rafael was the clear attacking star, scoring twice and stretching the 1 de Maio FC defence with his movement. Diego’s influence in midfield was also significant, with the goal capping a performance full of energy and precise passing. For 1 de Maio FC, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the scoreline respectable, while Mateus took his goal well and remained a threat on the counter.

What the win means

The three points strengthen Petrolina PE’s position in the Pernambucano League standings and give the squad momentum heading into their next fixtures. The performance will particularly please the coaching staff, who saw their pressing structure translate into goals. For 1 de Maio FC, the defeat highlights the need for greater compactness out of possession; they showed enough going forward to suggest they can respond, but defensive errors proved costly on the night.
