Aguilas UP delivered one of their most complete performances of the BRA LP reserve season, defeating Veraguas FC Reserves 3-0 on September 25, 2026. A clinical first-half opener, a quick second-half strike, and a late third goal sealed a dominant away victory that highlighted Aguilas UP’s finishing and defensive discipline.

Match Overview

Veraguas FC Reserves started with intent, pressing high and trying to force early mistakes. But Aguilas UP absorbed the pressure comfortably and struck first against the run of play in the 22nd minute. A quick transition from defence to attack ended with Fernando Ayarza firing a low shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner. The goal changed the complexion of the match, forcing Veraguas to chase the game while Aguilas UP sat deeper and looked to counter.

The second half began disastrously for the home side. In the 49th minute, Carlos Quintero doubled Aguilas UP’s lead with a composed finish after a defensive mix-up. Veraguas’s hopes of a comeback suffered a further blow in the 65th minute when a second yellow card reduced them to ten men. Aguilas UP controlled the remainder of the match and added a third goal in the 81st minute through substitute Manuel Batista, who tapped in from close range after a sweeping team move.

• 49’ – Goal: Carlos Quintero punishes a defensive error to make it 2-0.
• 65’ – Red card: Veraguas FC Reserves are reduced to ten men after a second booking.

Tactical Story

Aguilas UP set up in a disciplined 4-4-2, with two banks of four making it difficult for Veraguas to play through the middle. Their wingers tracked back diligently, and the front two worked hard to press the centre-backs without leaving the midfield exposed. Veraguas FC Reserves used a 4-3-3 and saw plenty of the ball in the first 20 minutes, but their possession lacked penetration. Once Aguilas UP scored, the game became a lesson in game management.

After the red card, Aguilas UP switched to a more patient 4-3-2 shape, keeping the ball and forcing Veraguas to chase shadows. The third goal was the best example of their tactical control: a long sequence of passes drew Veraguas out of position before a sudden acceleration opened the defence. It was a professional away performance built on defensive solidity and ruthless finishing.

Standout Players

• Fernando Ayarza (Aguilas UP): Opened the scoring with a composed finish and led the line intelligently.
• Carlos Quintero (Aguilas UP): Added the crucial second goal and controlled the midfield tempo.
• Manuel Batista (Aguilas UP): Came off the bench to score the third and keep the pressure on Veraguas.
• José Ávila (Aguilas UP): Made several routine but important saves and commanded his penalty area well.
• Luis Montenegro (Veraguas FC Reserves): Worked hard in midfield and was one of the few home players to threaten before the red card.

Season Impact

The 3-0 win strengthens Aguilas UP’s position in the BRA LP reserve table and gives them valuable momentum in the race for a higher finish. Their clean sheet will be particularly pleasing, as it shows a balance between attacking flair and defensive organisation. For Veraguas FC Reserves, the defeat is a setback that leaves them under pressure to respond quickly. The red card and the manner of the second goal will be frustrating, but the bigger concern will be their inability to turn early possession into clear chances. Aguilas UP, meanwhile, look increasingly like a side capable of challenging the division’s best.
