São José EC U20 1–1 Grêmio Youth: Hard-fought draw in Gauchão Sub-20 thriller

São José EC U20 and Grêmio Youth played out an entertaining 1–1 draw on 4th May 2026 in the Brazilian Campeonato Gaucho Youth League. The match, staged at the Estádio Passo d'Areia, delivered a competitive encounter that could have swung either way in the closing stages.

Grêmio Youth took the lead in the 22nd minute when a swift counter-attack ended with a low drive that beat the São José goalkeeper at his near post. The home side responded positively, pressing high and creating several half-chances before the interval. Their persistence paid off early in the second half, when a well-worked corner routine left a defender unmarked to head home from close range.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the final quarter. São José EC U20 enjoyed a brief spell of dominance, stringing together passes in the midfield and forcing two excellent saves from the Grêmio shot-stopper. The visitors, however, had a golden opportunity to snatch all three points when a late cross found their striker just six yards out, but his header flew inches over the bar.

The drawn result leaves both sides within touching distance of the top of the Campeonato Gaucho Youth League table. For Grêmio Youth, it extends an unbeaten run, while São José EC U20 will take confidence from their spirited second-half performance against one of the competition's traditional powerhouses.
