Zvijezda Gradacac produced a strong cup performance to beat FK Velez Mostar 2-1 in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup on 28 October 2026, using home energy and a late decisive goal to secure a memorable result.

Velez Mostar entered the tie as the higher-ranked side and enjoyed spells of possession, but Zvijezda Gradacac matched them physically and grew in confidence as the match progressed. The home team’s pressing and willingness to attack through the flanks ultimately made the difference in a competitive knockout encounter.

Match overview

The opening stages were played at a fast pace, with Zvijezda looking to close down Velez’s midfield and force mistakes. The home side’s aggression paid off when they took the lead, capitalising on a loose ball in the box and finishing calmly. Velez responded with more possession and began to probe down the sides, but Zvijezda’s defenders stayed compact.

After the break, Velez pushed higher up the pitch and found an equaliser through a well-worked move that stretched the home defence. That goal threatened to turn the tie in the visitors’ favour, but Zvijezda refused to fold. Instead, they regained their shape and found a late winner that sent the home crowd into celebration.

Key moments

• Zvijezda Gradacac opened the scoring after forcing a turnover and attacking quickly through the middle.
• Velez Mostar equalised in the second half with a composed finish after sustained pressure.
• The home goalkeeper made a crucial save to keep the score level heading into the closing stages.
• Zvijezda scored the decisive goal late on, converting a chance from a wide delivery.

Tactical story

Zvijezda’s plan was built around intensity. They pressed Velez’s ball-players, looked to win possession in advanced areas and attacked quickly when those turnovers arrived. Their wide players worked hard both ways, helping to protect the full-backs while still providing an outlet on the counter.

Velez Mostar controlled longer spells of possession but struggled to turn that control into clear chances. Their best moments came when they moved the ball quickly from midfield to the flanks, but Zvijezda’s central defenders dealt well with crosses and second balls. The late winner came from exactly the kind of direct, committed attacking play that had troubled Velez all evening.

Standout performers

Zvijezda’s striker led the line with energy and took the decisive chance when it arrived. The home goalkeeper also played a key role with a important second-half save, while the midfield unit covered ground tirelessly. For Velez Mostar, the central midfielder was their most composed presence, but the team lacked the final sharpness needed to kill the tie.

Cup impact

The result gives Zvijezda Gradacac a major confidence boost and a place in the next stage of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup. For Velez Mostar, it is a disappointing exit from a competition they would have hoped to challenge in. The match will be remembered for Zvijezda’s resilience and their ability to respond after conceding the equaliser.
