CA Independiente CBBA and Wilstermann Cooperativa share spoils in 2-2 thriller

CA Independiente CBBA and Wilstermann Cooperativa played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Bolivian Reserve Cup on September 21, 2026, at the Estadio Municipal de Quillacollo. The match was a showcase of youthful attacking talent, with both sides trading blows in a contest that swung one way and then the other. A late equaliser ensured the points were shared in a game that had everything but a winner.

Match Overview

The first half was fast and open, with both teams committed to attacking football. Independiente took the lead in the 22nd minute when their lively winger cut inside and curled a shot into the far corner. Wilstermann responded well and equalised just before the half-hour mark, capitalising on a defensive error to slot home from close range. The tempo remained high, and Wilstermann took the lead in the 41st minute with a powerful header from a free-kick.

Trailing at halftime, Independiente came out with renewed purpose. They dominated possession in the second half, forcing Wilstermann deeper and deeper. The pressure finally told in the 78th minute when a well-worked corner routine ended with a calm finish from the edge of the six-yard box. Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but some desperate defending and a couple of fine saves kept the score level.

Key Moments

• 22nd minute: Independiente take the lead with a curling effort from the left wing.
• 29th minute: Wilstermann equalise after pouncing on a loose ball in the box.
• 41st minute: Wilstermann go ahead with a towering header from a set piece.
• 78th minute: Independiente level the score with a well-executed corner routine.
• 90+3rd minute: Wilstermann’s striker is denied by a superb one-handed save.

Tactical Story

Independiente set up in a fluid 4-3-3, looking to dominate the ball and attack through quick combinations in wide areas. Their full-backs were very adventurous, often joining the attack to create overloads. Wilstermann, meanwhile, used a compact 4-4-2 that focused on winning the ball in midfield and launching rapid counterattacks. Their two strikers worked hard to press the Independiente centre-backs and force errors.

The match turned into a battle between Independiente’s possession and Wilstermann’s directness. In the second half, Independiente’s coach pushed one of the midfielders higher, effectively creating a 4-2-3-1 that pinned Wilstermann back. That change allowed them to sustain pressure and eventually find the equaliser. Wilstermann’s defence held firm for most of the final 15 minutes, but they will be disappointed not to have held on for all three points.

Standout Performers

Independiente’s left winger was a constant threat, scoring the opener and setting up the equaliser with a clever corner. Their captain in midfield controlled the tempo and rarely gave the ball away. For Wilstermann, the striker who scored the header was a handful all evening, and the goalkeeper made two crucial saves late on to preserve the draw.

Season Impact

The draw leaves both teams still in contention in the Bolivian Reserve Cup group stage. Independiente will feel they dropped two points after dominating the second half, while Wilstermann will see it as a valuable away point against a strong opponent. With the group finely poised, every remaining match will be crucial in determining who advances to the knockout rounds.
