The Copa LFPB continues to provide intense competition among Bolivia’s professional clubs, and Oriente Petrolero’s victory over Universitario de Vinto strengthens their position in the tournament. For Vinto, it was a night of frustration: they showed flashes of attacking intent but could not break down a well-organised Oriente defence.

Match Overview

Oriente Petrolero began the match with intent, pressing Universitario de Vinto in their own half and forcing early errors. The opening goal came in the 23rd minute when Jonatan Cristaldo timed his run perfectly to meet a low cross, guiding the ball past the goalkeeper from close range. The early breakthrough settled the home side, who continued to dominate possession and create half-chances through wide attacks.

Universitario de Vinto responded with a more aggressive approach after the half-hour mark, pressing higher and looking to exploit space behind Oriente’s full-backs. Their best spell came before half-time, but a combination of brave defending and sharp goalkeeping kept them off the scoreboard. Oriente doubled their lead in the 71st minute through Kevin Salvatierra, whose powerful strike from the edge of the box ended any hopes of a Vinto comeback.

Tactical Story

Oriente Petrolero set up with a balanced shape, using width to stretch Universitario de Vinto’s defensive block. This movement allowed Oriente to sustain attacks and pin Vinto back for long periods, especially during the first hour of the match.

Universitario de Vinto tried to counter through quick transitions and long balls into the channels. They had some success in the second quarter of the game, but Oriente’s back line held firm. The home side’s tactical discipline was evident in how they managed the final 20 minutes: rather than chasing a third goal recklessly, they slowed the tempo, kept possession, and protected their clean sheet. It was a mature cup performance built on control and clinical finishing.

Standout Players

• Jonatan Cristaldo (Oriente Petrolero): His opening goal set the tone, and his hold-up play helped bring teammates into the attack.
