Club Guabirá 2-1 San Antonio Bulo Bulo: Late Winner Settles Tight Copa LFPB Battle

Club Guabirá edged San Antonio Bulo Bulo 2-1 in a competitive Copa LFPB encounter on September 22, 2026, with a late goal deciding a match that had been balanced for long periods. At the Estadio Gilberto Parada in Montero, Guabirá’s patience and set-piece threat eventually told, giving them a valuable result and momentum in the Bolivian cup competition.

The home side started brightly and took an early lead, but San Antonio Bulo Bulo responded with a determined second-half performance and equalised through Jhon Mena. Just when the match looked set for a tense finish, Carlos Ribera struck in the 83rd minute to send the Guabirá supporters home happy.

Match Overview

Guabirá opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Diego Hoyos latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired past the goalkeeper. The early goal gave the home team confidence, and they controlled much of the first half with compact defending and quick transitions. San Antonio Bulo Bulo, however, remained dangerous on the counter and grew into the game as the half wore on.

After the break, San Antonio pushed more players forward and were rewarded in the 57th minute. Jhon Mena found a pocket of space between Guabirá’s centre-backs and produced a precise finish to make it 1-1. The visitors then had a short spell of pressure, but Guabirá weathered it and found the winning moment late on through Ribera, who converted from a well-worked attacking move.

Key Moments

• 18’ – Diego Hoyos gives Guabirá the lead: A defensive clearance fell kindly, and Hoyos made no mistake from inside the box.
• 57’ – Jhon Mena equalises for San Antonio: The forward timed his run perfectly and finished low beyond the goalkeeper.
• 83’ – Carlos Ribera scores the winner: Guabirá’s persistence paid off as Ribera arrived late in the box to seal the 2-1 victory.

Tactical Story

Guabirá set up in a disciplined 4-4-2, looking to win the ball in midfield and attack quickly through the channels. Their aerial strength was evident throughout, especially from corners and free kicks, and it was no surprise that their winning goal came from sustained pressure in the final third. The home side also managed the game well after taking the lead, slowing the tempo when needed and protecting their advantage.

San Antonio Bulo Bulo used a 4-2-3-1 and tried to exploit space behind Guabirá’s full-backs. Their equaliser came from exactly that kind of movement, with Mena drifting into a dangerous position. However, they were unable to maintain that intensity for the full match, and a momentary lapse in concentration allowed Ribera to score the decisive goal. In a cup tie of fine margins, that proved to be the difference.

Standout Players

Diego Hoyos was influential for Guabirá, scoring the opener and linking play effectively in the attacking third. Carlos Ribera will take the headlines for his late winner, but his overall work rate and movement off the ball were equally important. In defence, Guabirá’s centre-back pairing dealt well with San Antonio’s direct approach for most of the evening. For San Antonio Bulo Bulo, Jhon Mena was the standout, scoring a well-taken goal and causing problems with his runs in behind.

What the Result Means

The 2-1 win strengthens Club Guabirá’s position in the Copa LFPB and gives them a psychological edge in what remains a tightly contested competition. A late winner can be a powerful boost for squad confidence, and Guabirá will hope to carry that momentum into their next fixture. San Antonio Bulo Bulo, meanwhile, will feel they deserved more from the match, but they can take encouragement from a resilient away performance. They will need to turn that display into points quickly if they are to keep their cup ambitions on track.
