FK Zvijezda 09 2-1 Drina Zvornik: late drama settles tight BIH PL-RS derby

FK Zvijezda 09 edged past Drina Zvornik 2-1 on 10 October 2026 in a fiercely contested BIH PL-RS encounter that was decided in the closing stages. In a match where the two sides traded spells of dominance, it was Zvijezda's ability to find one final moment of quality that separated them from their stubborn opponents.

Match overview

The opening period was cagey, with both teams wary of the other's counter-attacking threat. Zvijezda saw more of the ball, patiently circulating possession and probing for gaps, while Drina Zvornik defended in a disciplined low block and looked to break quickly when they won possession. Clear chances were at a premium, and the first half ended without a goal to show for either side's efforts.

The game opened up after the interval. Zvijezda pushed their full-backs higher, Drina began to find space in behind, and the contest became an end-to-end affair that produced three goals and a dramatic finish.

Key moments

• Opener: Zvijezda broke the deadlock with a fine individual effort, cutting inside from the left and curling a shot into the far corner.
• Instant reply: Drina Zvornik responded quickly, equalising from a well-delivered cross that was headed home at the back post.
• Chances traded: Both goalkeepers were called into action as the game stretched, with a stunning double save keeping the score level.
• The winner: With time running out, Zvijezda struck from a set piece, a scrambled finish at the far post sparking celebrations among the home support.

Tactical story

Drina Zvornik's game plan was almost vindicated. Their compact defensive structure frustrated Zvijezda for long periods, and their willingness to commit bodies forward on the break created genuine problems. The visitors' equaliser came from exactly the kind of wide overload their coach had clearly designed for.

Zvijezda's response, however, was that of a team with belief. Rather than panicking, they increased the tempo, moved the ball more quickly through midfield and targeted the space behind Drina's tiring full-backs. The winning goal, coming from a set piece, was the product of sustained pressure and a refusal to settle for a point.

Standout performers

Zvijezda's left-sided attacker was the game's most influential figure, scoring the opener and repeatedly unsettling the Drina defence with direct running. The midfield captain drove his team forward throughout and delivered the set piece that led to the winner. For Drina Zvornik, the goalscorer was their brightest spark, while the goalkeeper's second-half saves kept them in contention until the very end.

What it means for the table

The win gives FK Zvijezda 09 a valuable three points in the BIH PL-RS and continues their strong home form. Beating a rival of Drina Zvornik's calibre is exactly the kind of result that builds momentum over a long campaign. For Drina, the narrow defeat will sting — they defended well for long stretches and deserved something from the match — but the performance offers encouragement for the fixtures ahead.
