FK Velež Nevesinje secured a commanding 2-0 victory over FK Zvijezda 09 in their BIH PL-RS clash at a packed home ground, delivering a performance that underlined their promotion ambitions and defensive solidity. The match, played on 23 September 2026, saw the hosts take control early and never relinquish their grip, with two well-taken goals either side of the break sealing all three points in front of an expectant crowd.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, Velež Nevesinje set the tempo, pressing high and forcing Zvijezda 09 into a series of hurried clearances. The visitors struggled to string passes together in midfield, and the home side’s dominance was rewarded midway through the first half when a quick attacking move down the right ended with a composed finish into the bottom corner. Zvijezda 09 attempted to respond through counter-attacks, but the Velež back line held firm, snuffing out any danger before it could develop.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Velež Nevesinje managing the game intelligently. They doubled their lead just after the hour mark, capitalising on a defensive mix-up and slotting home from close range. From there, the hosts controlled possession, limited Zvijezda to speculative efforts, and comfortably saw out the remainder of the match without conceding.

Key Moments

• Opening goal (Velež Nevesinje): A sharp passing sequence unlocked the Zvijezda defence, and the forward made no mistake with a low drive.
• Second goal (Velež Nevesinje): A high press forced a turnover, and the ball was quickly worked into the box for a simple tap-in.
• Zvijezda’s best chance: A second-half free-kick was tipped over the bar by the Velež goalkeeper, preserving the clean sheet.

Tactical Story

Velež Nevesinje lined up in a flexible 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-3-3 in possession, with the full-backs pushing high to stretch Zvijezda’s midfield. The visitors attempted to sit deep and hit on the break, but their transitions were too slow, allowing the hosts to recover shape. Velež’s midfield duo controlled the tempo, consistently switching play and feeding the wide attackers, who repeatedly isolated their markers. Defensively, the home side’s compact block forced Zvijezda into long balls that were easily dealt with by the centre-backs.

Standout Players

The Velež Nevesinje striker was a constant menace, scoring the opener and linking play effectively. Their central midfielder dictated proceedings with intelligent distribution and won several key duels. For Zvijezda 09, the goalkeeper made a string of saves to keep the score respectable, while their captain tried to drive the team forward but lacked support.

Season Impact

This result strengthens Velež Nevesinje’s position in the upper reaches of the BIH PL-RS standings, adding another clean sheet to their growing reputation as one of the division’s toughest defences. For Zvijezda 09, the defeat leaves them searching for consistency, particularly on the road, where they have struggled to convert promising spells into goals. The three points could prove crucial in the race for promotion, and Velež will look to build on this performance in their next fixture.
