Never Give Up Academy Edge Vitalo 2-1 in Burundi Premier League

Never Give Up Academy claimed a 2-1 victory over Vitalo in the Burundi Premier League on 25 October 2026, with first-half and second-half goals securing an important home win. Samuel Niyongabo and Claude Nshimirimana were on target for the academy side, while Patrick Habonimana scored a late consolation for Vitalo.

The match was decided by Never Give Up Academy’s ability to turn pressure into goals during key moments. Vitalo competed well and remained dangerous until the final whistle, but the hosts’ sharper finishing and disciplined defensive work proved enough to seal all three points.

Match Overview

Never Give Up Academy made a bright start and took the lead after eighteen minutes when Niyongabo capitalised on a loose ball inside the penalty area. The hosts continued to press and created several half-chances, though Vitalo gradually settled and began to threaten on the break.

The second goal arrived just after the hour mark through Nshimirimana, who finished confidently after a quick attacking transition. Vitalo responded with increased urgency and pulled one back through Habonimana, setting up a tense final period. However, Never Give Up Academy managed the closing stages well and held on for the win.

Key Moments

• Niyongabo’s opener: The academy side took the lead after a defensive mix-up, with Samuel Niyongabo reacting fastest to score from close range.
• Vitalo’s response: Vitalo forced two corners and tested the goalkeeper before half-time but could not find an equaliser.
• Nshimirimana’s clincher: Claude Nshimirimana doubled the lead with a composed finish after a swift counterattack.
• Habonimana’s late goal: Patrick Habonimana gave Vitalo hope with a well-taken goal, but the hosts defended resolutely in the final minutes.

Tactical Story

Never Give Up Academy used a high-energy approach, pressing Vitalo’s defenders and looking to win the ball in advanced areas. That strategy paid off for the opening goal and created several other dangerous moments. Their midfield also worked hard to protect the back four, limiting Vitalo’s space between the lines.

Vitalo’s best spells came when they switched play quickly and attacked down the flanks. They found more joy after the break, particularly when Habonimana began to drop deeper to link play. However, their inability to convert sustained pressure into an equaliser before the second goal proved costly.

Standout Performers

Niyongabo was a constant threat for Never Give Up Academy, while Nshimirimana’s second-half goal highlighted his composure in front of goal. The goalkeeper also made a crucial save late in the match to preserve the lead.

For Vitalo, Habonimana was the standout performer, scoring a well-taken goal and causing problems with his movement. Their goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with several sharp saves during the first half.

Season Impact

The victory gives Never Give Up Academy a valuable three points and boosts their confidence in the Burundi Premier League. They showed the kind of ruthless edge needed to win tight matches, combining attacking intent with a strong defensive effort in the final minutes.

Vitalo, meanwhile, will take encouragement from their late response but will rue the defensive lapses that allowed the hosts to build a two-goal lead. The result adds another layer of intrigue to the league standings and sets up an important next round for both clubs.
