AS Douanes Ouagadougou and RC Kadiogo played out a 0-0 draw in the Burkina Faso Division 1 on Friday night, with both defences holding firm in a tense Ouagadougou encounter. The match was short on goals but not on commitment, as two of the capital’s well-known clubs cancelled each other out in a disciplined tactical battle.

AS Douanes looked to impose themselves early, while RC Kadiogo were content to absorb pressure and strike on the counter. The result leaves both sides with a point to build on, though each will feel they could have found a winner with better decision-making in the final third.

Match overview

The early exchanges were played at a high tempo, with AS Douanes pressing aggressively and RC Kadiogo looking to move the ball quickly through midfield. Douanes’ wide players were heavily involved, stretching the Kadiogo defence and delivering several crosses into the box. However, the final ball was often overcooked or cleared by a well-positioned defender.

RC Kadiogo gradually settled and began to enjoy longer spells of possession. Their midfielders found space between the lines and linked well with the forwards, but the final shot was frequently blocked or sent wide. The game became a midfield battle, with both teams wary of committing too many players forward.

Key moments

• 14th minute: AS Douanes’ first clear chance came from a low cross, but the striker’s first-time effort was saved.
• 29th minute: RC Kadiogo won a free-kick on the edge of the box, but the shot went narrowly over the bar.
• 55th minute: A powerful header from a corner forced a fine save from the AS Douanes goalkeeper.
• 72nd minute: AS Douanes broke quickly, but the final pass was intercepted at the crucial moment.
• 90+2nd minute: A late RC Kadiogo corner caused a scramble, but the defence cleared the danger.

Tactical story

AS Douanes set up with a 4-3-3 formation and tried to dominate the ball, but RC Kadiogo’s 4-4-2 block made it difficult to play through the centre. Douanes often went wide, and while their crosses created some uncertainty, Kadiogo’s centre-backs dealt with the aerial threat well.

RC Kadiogo’s game plan was built on patience and quick transitions. They defended deep, invited pressure and looked to release their forwards into space. The approach nearly produced a goal in the second half, but the final pass was lacking. Both sides showed excellent defensive discipline, which ultimately kept the game goalless.

Standout performers

AS Douanes’ goalkeeper Issouf Sawadogo made two important saves and handled set pieces confidently. RC Kadiogo’s central defender Oumar Traore was outstanding, reading the game well and winning several crucial duels. AS Douanes midfielder Abdoulaye Sanou worked tirelessly, while RC Kadiogo’s captain Moussa Ouedraogo controlled the tempo in midfield.
