Club Nxt 2-2 Gent B: Club Nxt and Gent B played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Belgian Second Division on September 19, 2026, with both development sides showing the attacking ambition and youthful energy that makes the Challenger Pro League so watchable. Four goals, several momentum swings, and a late equaliser gave the match a dramatic finish.

Match overview

Club Nxt, the reserve side of Club Brugge, started with confidence and took the lead in the first half. A quick break down the left ended with a low cross and a neat finish from the edge of the six-yard box. Gent B responded well, though, and levelled before half-time with a well-struck effort from just outside the penalty area after a period of sustained pressure.

The second half was even more open. Club Nxt regained the lead with a curling shot from a narrow angle, but Gent B refused to fold. The visitors pushed more players forward in the final twenty minutes and found their reward with a late equaliser, converting a cross from the right with a close-range header. There was still time for one final chance at each end, but both goalkeepers stood tall to preserve the draw.

Key moments

• Club Nxt opener: A swift counter-attack down the left created the first goal, finished calmly from inside the box.
• Gent B equaliser: The visitors levelled with a powerful strike from outside the area after building pressure.
• Club Nxt retake lead: A curling effort from a tight angle restored the home side’s advantage after the break.
• Late drama: Gent B equalised with a header in the closing stages, and both sides had chances to win it in stoppage time.

Tactical story

As reserve teams, both sides are built around player development, and that was evident in the way they played. Club Nxt looked to press aggressively and attack quickly through the wide areas, while Gent B preferred to keep the ball and look for overloads in midfield. The game became stretched in the second half, with transitions dominating and both defences exposed to quick counter-attacks.

There were moments of naivety, as expected from young line-ups, but there was also plenty of technical quality. The coaching staff on both benches will have seen encouraging signs in possession, even if the defensive mistakes will provide plenty of material for the next training session.

Standout players

Club Nxt’s left winger was a constant outlet, creating the opening goal and causing problems with direct running. Their attacking midfielder also impressed with his link-up play. For Gent B, the central striker led the line well and scored the late equaliser, while the goalkeeper made two important saves to keep his team in the contest.

Belgian Second Division table impact

The draw gives both development sides a point in the Belgian Second Division standings. Club Nxt will be pleased with their attacking output but frustrated not to hold on for the win. Gent B showed character to come from behind twice and will take confidence from their late response. In a league where young players are given room to grow, results matter, but performances and individual development remain just as important. This 2-2 draw delivered both entertainment and useful lessons for the seasons ahead.
