KVC Westerlo and SK Beveren played out a remarkable 4-4 draw in the Belgian Pro League on 25 October 2026, with eight goals and a stoppage-time equaliser at Het Kuipje. Westerlo looked in control early on, but Beveren fought back repeatedly and earned a point in dramatic fashion.

Match overview

Westerlo made a fast start and took the lead in the eighth minute through Lucas Verstraete, who finished well after a flowing attacking move. The home side doubled their advantage just after the 20-minute mark when Milan De Cuyper struck from the edge of the box. At 2-0, Westerlo seemed to be heading towards a comfortable afternoon.

Beveren had other ideas. Amadou Diallo pulled one back before half-time, and Noah De Ridder levelled early in the second half. Beveren then took the lead through Diallo’s second goal, only for Westerlo to respond with two quick goals of their own. Verstraete added his second, and Jasper Van Oudenhove made it 4-3. Just when Westerlo thought they had won it, Diallo completed his hat-trick in stoppage time to rescue a 4-4 draw.

Tactical story

Westerlo’s early pressure paid off as they attacked down the flanks and created space between Beveren’s centre-backs. Their two-goal lead came from quick combination play, but they struggled to manage the game once Beveren increased their intensity. Beveren pressed higher after the break and forced Westerlo into rushed clearances and defensive mistakes.

The match became a chaotic end-to-end contest in the second half. Both teams committed numbers forward, and neither defence looked comfortable dealing with crosses and set pieces. Westerlo’s decision to sit slightly deeper after taking a 4-3 lead backfired, allowing Beveren to launch one final attack and find the equaliser.

Standout players

Amadou Diallo was the outstanding performer for SK Beveren, scoring a hat-trick and leading the line with power and composure. Lucas Verstraete scored twice for Westerlo and was a constant threat in the box. Noah De Ridder also played a key role in Beveren’s comeback, driving forward from midfield and linking play intelligently.

Season impact

The draw feels like a missed opportunity for KVC Westerlo, who led three times and conceded a late equaliser at home. For SK Beveren, the point is a reward for their persistence and keeps their momentum going in the Belgian Pro League. Westerlo remain in the mid-table battle, while Beveren will take confidence from a fighting away performance.
