Zelzate 0-3 KFC Houtvenne — KFC Houtvenne produced a professional away performance in the Belgian First Amateur Division, winning 3-0 at Zelzate with a controlled display built on solid defending and clinical finishing.

The three goals came at key moments, and each one took the game further away from a Zelzate side that struggled to create anything of note in the final third.

Match Overview

Houtvenne began the match with a clear plan: stay compact, deny Zelzate space between the lines, and strike on the counter. It worked to perfection. The visitors took the lead in the first half and never surrendered control of the contest.

Zelzate had plenty of the ball but very little of it in dangerous areas. Their midfield circulated possession reasonably well, yet every attempt to break through the Houtvenne defensive block was met with a wall of bodies and a quick clearance.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Houtvenne added a second goal shortly after the restart, effectively ending the contest as a competitive fixture, before a third goal late on completed a comfortable evening's work.

Key Moments

• 21' — Houtvenne take the lead with a well-placed shot from just inside the box.
• 36' — Zelzate's best opening is smothered by the Houtvenne goalkeeper.
• 49' — Houtvenne score their second, finishing off a rapid counter-attack.
• 63' — A Zelzate header clips the top of the crossbar.
• 78' — Houtvenne make it 3-0 with a composed finish after a defensive mix-up.
• 90' — The visitors see out stoppage time without alarm.

Tactical Story

Houtvenne's defensive organisation was the foundation of the win. Their back four held a disciplined line, the midfield screened effectively and Zelzate were repeatedly forced into low-percentage crosses that were comfortably dealt with.

Going forward, Houtvenne were ruthless. Each of their three goals came from a different route — a composed finish from open play, a counter-attack, and a high press that forced an error — which says a lot about the variety in their attacking play.

Zelzate's problem was a familiar one: dominance of possession without penetration. Their wingers were well marshalled, and the striker was starved of service. When they did create half-chances, the finishing lacked conviction.

Standout Players

Houtvenne's goalkeeper was alert when called upon and deserved his clean sheet, while the midfielder who drove forward to set up the second goal was the game's most dynamic player. The forward who scored the third showed real composure after capitalising on a defensive error.

For Zelzate, the goalkeeper prevented a heavier defeat with several strong saves, and the captain tried to drive his team forward even as the game slipped away.

What It Means for the Table

Three points and a clean sheet away from home is exactly the kind of result that keeps a team moving in the right direction in the Belgian First Amateur Division standings. Houtvenne will take confidence from the manner of the performance, particularly their defensive resilience.

For Zelzate, the defeat highlights the need for a more direct and varied attacking approach. Possession without a cutting edge is a difficult habit to break, and the coaching staff will be working on it before the next round of fixtures.
