Leuven B 4-1 Sporting West Harelbeke: Hosts Produce Four-Star Attacking Display

Leuven B delivered an impressive attacking performance to beat Sporting West Harelbeke 4-1 in the Belgian First Amateur Division on Sunday evening. A brace from Jarne Vandeplas helped set the tone, and further goals from Mathis Vandenberghe and Senne Jacobs completed a convincing home victory.

The result underlines the strength of Leuven B’s attacking options and gives the reserve side a valuable three points in the Belgian First Amateur Division standings. Sporting West Harelbeke had their moments, particularly after pulling a goal back in the second half, but they were unable to cope with Leuven’s pace and movement over the full 90 minutes.

Match overview

Leuven B started on the front foot, pressing high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. The early pressure created chances, and the hosts took the lead through Jarne Vandeplas, who finished well after a flowing attacking move. Leuven continued to dominate territory and doubled their advantage when Mathis Vandenberghe found space in the box and converted.

Sporting West Harelbeke tried to respond and had a few promising moments on the break, but Leuven’s defensive line held firm for most of the first half. The home side went into the interval with a comfortable lead and looked in control of the contest.

Early in the second half, Leuven added a third through Vandeplas again, effectively putting the game beyond doubt. Harelbeke did pull one back through Lennert Cools, briefly raising hopes of a comeback, but Senne Jacobs restored the four-goal cushion with a late finish to complete the scoring.

Tactical story

Leuven B’s approach was built on width and quick combinations. Their wide players stretched the Harelbeke defence, creating space for midfield runners and allowing the forwards to attack crosses and cut-backs. The pressing was also effective, forcing Harelbeke into hurried clearances and giving Leuven repeated chances to recycle possession.

Sporting West Harelbeke struggled to contain Leuven’s movement in the final third. They improved after half-time and found a goal through Cools, but the home side’s response was swift and decisive. Leuven’s ability to score at important moments prevented any real comeback.

Standout performers

Jarne Vandeplas was the clear standout with two well-taken goals, showing sharp movement and good finishing. Mathis Vandenberghe and Senne Jacobs also made important contributions, while Leuven’s midfield controlled the tempo for long periods. For Sporting West Harelbeke, Lennert Cools took his goal well and was one of the visitors’ most positive performers.

Season impact

The victory gives Leuven B a strong boost in the Belgian First Amateur Division and highlights the depth within the club’s reserve setup. A 4-1 win at home is always satisfying, and the performance will give the coaching staff plenty of encouragement about the development of the squad.

Sporting West Harelbeke will need to regroup quickly after a difficult defensive evening. They showed enough going forward to suggest they can compete in upcoming matches, but they will need to be more compact and harder to break down if they are to pick up points consistently.
