KFC Houtvenne secured a valuable 2-1 win over KFC Mandel United in the Belgian First Amateur Division on October 1, 2026, delivering a composed home performance that combined early aggression with late resilience. The three points lifted the hosts in the league standings and left Mandel United reflecting on a game in which they improved after the break but could not complete the comeback.

Match overview

Houtvenne began with purpose, pressing high and forcing Mandel United into rushed clearances. Playing in a 4-2-3-1 shape, the home side looked to get their wingers into one-on-one situations and aimed crosses toward the penalty spot. Mandel United sat deeper in a 4-3-3, hoping to spring quick counters through the channels, but they struggled to keep possession during the opening half hour.

The breakthrough arrived in the 23rd minute when Lars Van den Bergh collected the ball on the edge of the box, shifted onto his right foot, and guided a low finish into the bottom corner. Houtvenne continued to control the tempo, and Mandel United’s best moment of the first half came from a set piece that was headed narrowly over.

Key moments

• 23’ – Houtvenne 1-0: Lars Van den Bergh opened the scoring with a precise low strike after a patient build-up.
• 41’ – Mandel chance: A free-kick from the left was met at the near post, but the header cleared the crossbar.
• 67’ – Houtvenne 2-0: Tom Vandenberghe powered home a header from a corner, doubling the lead.
• 82’ – Mandel United pull one back: Jelle De Wilde reacted quickest inside the area and fired past the goalkeeper.
• 90+3’ – Late save: Houtvenne goalkeeper Bram Peeters tipped a dipping effort over the bar to preserve the win.

Tactical story

Houtvenne’s midfield duo controlled the first hour, winning second balls and allowing the full-backs to advance. Mandel United changed shape after the second goal, introducing fresh legs in wide areas and pushing their central midfielders higher. The adjustment gave them more territory and a route back into the match, but Houtvenne’s back line stayed compact and defended the box well in the closing stages.

Standout players

Van den Bergh was the creative spark, while Vandenberghe’s aerial threat from set pieces proved decisive. Peeters made two important saves, including the stoppage-time stop that denied Mandel United an equaliser. For the visitors, De Wilde was lively after coming off the bench and took his goal confidently.

What it means in the table

The result gives KFC Houtvenne momentum in the Belgian First Amateur Division and reinforces their home form. KFC Mandel United leave with no points but can take encouragement from a stronger second-half display. In a division where consistency is often the difference between a promotion push and mid-table drift, this was exactly the kind of narrow win Houtvenne will want to build on.
