Cercle Brugge II 1-4 Hoogstraten VV: Clinical Visitors Run Rampant

Hoogstraten VV delivered a ruthless away performance to beat Cercle Brugge II 4-1 in the Belgian First Amateur Division on 25 October 2026. The visitors scored four times through a combination of high pressing, quick transitions, and composed finishing, leaving Cercle Brugge II with plenty to analyse after a heavy home defeat.

Although Cercle Brugge II had spells of possession and scored a late consolation, Hoogstraten VV were the better side in both boxes. They defended with discipline, attacked with purpose, and took their chances at key moments to turn a competitive opening into a comfortable victory.

Match Overview

Hoogstraten VV’s victory was built on efficiency. They did not dominate the ball for long periods, but they were far more dangerous when they had it, and their pressing forced Cercle Brugge II into errors in dangerous areas.

Key Moments

The away side opened the scoring in the 14th minute. A loose pass in Cercle Brugge II’s midfield was intercepted, and Hoogstraten moved the ball forward quickly before finishing low into the corner. The early goal settled the visitors and forced the home team to chase the game.

The lead was doubled in the 31st minute after a well-worked move down the left. The cross was cut back to the edge of the box, and the arriving midfielder struck a first-time shot through a crowd of bodies and into the net.

Hoogstraten made it 3-0 early in the second half. Their striker pressed the Cercle Brugge II centre-back, won the ball on the edge of the area, and calmly rounded the goalkeeper before rolling it in. The fourth arrived in the 72nd minute, with a substitute finishing off a rapid counter-attack.

Cercle Brugge II kept pushing and were rewarded in the 84th minute with a consolation goal. A cross from the right was met with a firm header that beat the Hoogstraten goalkeeper. It was a small highlight on an otherwise difficult afternoon for the home side.

Tactical Story

Hoogstraten VV’s 4-2-3-1 was designed to press Cercle Brugge II’s deep midfielders and force rushed passes. That strategy worked perfectly, as the visitors repeatedly regained possession in advanced positions. When they won the ball, they attacked vertically and with numbers, making it difficult for Cercle Brugge II to recover.

Cercle Brugge II tried to play out from the back, but the pressure was relentless. Their full-backs were often isolated when Hoogstraten switched play, and the centre-backs had to defend large spaces. Going forward, the home team created a few half-chances but lacked the clinical edge shown by their opponents.

Standout Performers

Hoogstraten VV’s centre-forward was central to the win, scoring one goal and setting up another with his pressing. The left-winger was a constant outlet, while the central midfielder controlled the tempo and arrived in the box for the second goal. The goalkeeper also made two smart saves to deny Cercle Brugge II a route back into the match.

For Cercle Brugge II, the left-back was one of the few players to emerge with credit, showing energy going forward and making several recovery runs. The substitute who scored the consolation header took his chance well.

Season Impact

The three points are a major boost for Hoogstraten VV and strengthen their position in the Belgian First Amateur Division standings. A 4-1 away win will build belief and confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. Cercle Brugge II, meanwhile, must improve their ball retention under pressure and tighten their defensive transitions after conceding four goals at home.
