KSC Lokeren marched into the next round of the Belgian Cup with a commanding 5-0 victory over KFC Houtvenne on September 27, 2026, delivering a performance that mixed clinical finishing with relentless control at the Daknamstadion. The home side were never seriously threatened after taking an early lead, and the scoreline reflected their superiority in almost every phase of the game.

Match Overview

From the opening whistle, Lokeren imposed themselves on the contest. They pushed their full-backs high, kept the midfield compact, and repeatedly worked the ball into wide areas to stretch Houtvenne’s defensive block. The visitors, representing a lower tier of Belgian football, came into the cup tie with a clear plan to defend deep and counter, but they struggled to sustain possession once Lokeren’s press intensified.

Lokeren’s dominance was rewarded in the 12th minute when Lars Van den Eynde finished calmly after a flowing move down the right. The second goal arrived on 27 minutes through De Smet, who converted from close range after a corner was only partially cleared. That two-goal cushion allowed Lokeren to play with freedom, and Houtvenne’s resistance began to fade.

Key Moments

• 12’ – KSC Lokeren 1-0: Lars Van den Eynde slots home after a quick combination on the right wing.
• 27’ – KSC Lokeren 2-0: De Smet reacts fastest to a loose ball inside the box and doubles the lead.
• 58’ – KSC Lokeren 3-0: Van den Eynde strikes again, finishing a sweeping counter-attack.
• 71’ – KSC Lokeren 4-0: Substitute Nzinga adds his name to the scoresheet with a low drive.
• 84’ – KSC Lokeren 5-0: Van den Eynde completes his hat-trick, capping a ruthless team performance.

Tactical Story

Lokeren lined up in a 4-2-3-1 shape that became almost a 2-3-5 in possession. The central midfielders recycled the ball quickly, while the wide attackers pinned Houtvenne’s wing-backs deep. Houtvenne tried to defend in a 5-4-1 block, but the constant switching of play left gaps between the lines. Once Lokeren scored the opener, the Belgian Cup tie became a question of how many they would win by rather than who would advance.

Houtvenne’s goalkeeper made several sharp saves to keep the score respectable, but the defensive line could not cope with Lokeren’s movement. The home side’s pressing also won the ball back high up the pitch on multiple occasions, leading directly to chances. It was a complete cup performance: aggressive without the ball, patient with it, and merciless in the final third.

Standout Players

Lars Van den Eynde was the obvious hero with a well-taken hat-trick, showing composure for his first, timing for his second, and power for his third. De Smet dictated the tempo from midfield and added a goal, while Nzinga made an impact off the bench. For Houtvenne, the goalkeeper and central defender Peeters deserved credit for limiting the damage before the late goals.

What It Means

The result sends KSC Lokeren into the next round of the Belgian Cup with confidence and momentum. A five-goal haul will boost belief in the squad, especially with the league campaign continuing in parallel. For KFC Houtvenne, the cup exit is disappointing but allows the club to refocus on its domestic objectives. The match served as a reminder of the gap between a professional outfit like Lokeren and a lower-division side, yet Houtvenne can take pride in reaching this stage of the competition.
