Vicenza U19 and Palermo U19 shared the spoils in a goalless first-leg encounter in the Italian Primavera Cup on 22 August 2026. The 0-0 draw at the Stadio Romeo Menti means this knockout tie remains perfectly poised, with both young squads still confident of progressing to the next round.

Match overview

Vicenza entered the match looking to make home advantage count, and they started brightly with quick combinations through midfield. Their early pressure produced a handful of half-chances, but Palermo’s defensive line, marshaled by an imposing center-back pairing, stood firm. The Sicilian visitors gradually settled into the contest and began to control possession, though clear opportunities were rare in a tactically cautious first half.

After the interval, the tempo rose significantly. Vicenza pushed forward with greater urgency, particularly down the left wing, while Palermo threatened on the break with pace upfront. The match’s best chance fell to a Palermo forward midway through the second half, but his close-range effort was brilliantly saved by the Vicenza goalkeeper. At the other end, a late header from a corner flew just wide, leaving the home crowd with a sense of what might have been.

Standout performers

• Vicenza U19 goalkeeper: Produced at least two crucial saves to keep his side level and preserve the clean sheet.
• Palermo U19 defensive unit: Stayed organized throughout and limited Vicenza to largely speculative attempts.
• Midfield engines: Both teams showed energy and composure in the center of the park, making it difficult for either side to establish sustained dominance.

Looking ahead

With no goals separating the teams, the second leg in Palermo promises to be an intriguing contest. Vicenza will need to score if they are to advance with any comfort, while Palermo will be confident of progressing in front of their own supporters. The Italian Primavera Cup continues to reward young players with high-stakes experiences, and this 0-0 draw has set the stage for a dramatic conclusion.

For now, both academies can take positives from a disciplined defensive display, but the tension will only build as the return fixture approaches.
