Qarabag 3-3 FC Neftci Baku: Qarabag and FC Neftci Baku played out a dramatic 3-3 draw in the Azerbaijan Premier League on 17 October 2026, with a stoppage-time equaliser completing a remarkable comeback. The six-goal contest swung repeatedly, leaving both sides with mixed feelings after a night of high intensity and defensive vulnerability.

Match overview

Qarabag made the stronger start and looked capable of taking full control. Two early goals gave the champions-elect a comfortable cushion, and Neftci Baku were forced to regroup. But the visitors stayed in the contest, pulled one back before half-time, and then produced a much more aggressive second-half display.

Neftci equalised just after the hour, only for Qarabag to restore their lead with a little over 15 minutes remaining. The match appeared to be heading for a home win, but Neftci found one final moment in stoppage time to claim a point in a thrilling finish.

Key moments

• 7th minute: Qarabag took the lead through Ramil Aliyev, who finished a quick attacking move from close range.
• 28th minute: Leandro Andrade doubled the advantage with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
• 45+2’: Neftci Baku pulled one back through an Emin Mahmudov penalty.
• 61st minute: Mahmudov scored again, finishing a counter-attack to make it 2-2.
• 74th minute: Ramil Aliyev restored Qarabag’s lead with his second goal of the match.
• 90+3’: Neftci Baku equalised from a late corner, sparking wild celebrations.

Tactical story

Qarabag’s early dominance came from quick ball circulation and aggressive pressing. They won possession high up the pitch and created chances through the half-spaces, with Aliyev and Andrade causing problems. However, Qarabag’s defensive line dropped too deep after taking a 2-0 lead, inviting Neftci back into the game.

Neftci adjusted at half-time, pushing their midfield higher and targeting space behind Qarabag’s full-backs. The change worked, and their second-half pressure produced two goals. Qarabag still looked dangerous on the break and regained the lead, but their inability to manage set pieces in the final moments cost them two points.

Standout performers

Ramil Aliyev was Qarabag’s most dangerous player, scoring twice and stretching Neftci’s defence throughout. Leandro Andrade also impressed with his creativity and goal. For Neftci Baku, Emin Mahmudov led the fightback with two goals, while the visiting goalkeeper made several important saves to keep the score within reach before the late equaliser.

What it means

Qarabag remain in a strong position at the top end of the Azerbaijan Premier League table, but dropping points from 2-0 and 3-2 ahead will frustrate the coaching staff. Neftci Baku, by contrast, will take confidence from their resilience and attacking intent. A point away to Qarabag can be valuable, especially when it comes from a stoppage-time equaliser.
