İmişli FK 0-2 Qarabag: Champions Cruise to Away Victory in Azerbaijan Premier League

Qarabag delivered a controlled and professional away performance on October 11, 2026, defeating İmişli FK 2-0 in the Azerbaijan Premier League. The champions rarely looked troubled, scoring in each half to secure all three points and extend their strong recent record in the competition.

Match Overview

İmişli FK began with energy and tried to press Qarabag high up the pitch, hoping to disrupt the visitors’ rhythm. For the first twenty minutes, the plan partially worked: Qarabag were forced into a few hurried passes, and İmişli won a couple of corners. But once the champions settled into their possession game, the match tilted firmly in their favour.

Qarabag’s midfield took control after the opening exchanges, moving the ball quickly from side to side and pulling İmişli’s defensive block out of shape. The opening goal came from exactly that kind of patient build-up, and from then on the visitors looked comfortable managing the game.

Key Moments

• 27th minute – Qarabag take the lead: A neat passing move down the right ended with a low cross into the box, and Ramil Ahmadov finished calmly from close range.
• 41st minute – İmişli’s best chance: The hosts nearly responded before half-time, but a header from a set piece drifted just wide of the far post.
• 58th minute – Big save: Qarabag’s goalkeeper produced a sharp stop to deny İmişli an equaliser after a rare defensive lapse.
• 74th minute – Victory sealed: Substitute Musa Qurbanli doubled the lead, finishing off a quick counter-attack with a low shot into the bottom corner.

Tactical Story

Qarabag lined up with their usual emphasis on ball retention and positional rotation. Their full-backs pushed high, allowing the wingers to drift inside and create overloads in central areas. İmişli FK tried to defend with a compact 4-4-2 block, but the sheer speed of Qarabag’s passing made it difficult for the home side to close gaps consistently.

Out of possession, Qarabag pressed intelligently rather than frantically. They blocked central lanes and forced İmişli to play wide, where the visitors could then win the ball back and launch attacks. That control was the foundation of the clean sheet and the two-goal margin.

Standout Players

Ramil Ahmadov was a constant threat with his movement between the lines, and his goal was a reward for intelligent positioning. Musa Qurbanli made an impact from the bench, adding energy and composure in the final third.

For İmişli FK, goalkeeper Elvin Mammadli kept the score respectable with several saves, while midfielder Tural Hasanov worked tirelessly to link play. Their efforts, however, were not enough against a side of Qarabag’s quality.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Qarabag’s position at the top end of the Azerbaijan Premier League standings and reinforces their status as the team to beat. For İmişli FK, the defeat is a reminder of the gap that still exists between the title contenders and the rest of the division, though there were enough promising spells to suggest they can compete in the coming weeks.

Qarabag will now look to build momentum in their title defence, while İmişli must regroup quickly and focus on picking up points in their next fixtures. In a league where away victories are precious, this was a statement result for the champions.
