SV Horn and Wiener SC produced a seven-goal classic in the Austrian 3.Liga on 24 October 2026, with Wiener SC claiming a dramatic 4-3 away victory after a late winner settled an absorbing contest. The match swung repeatedly, featuring comebacks, a hat-trick and a finish that left the home crowd stunned.

Wiener SC edge a thriller at SV Horn

From the opening whistle, both sides showed attacking intent. Wiener SC struck first through Daniel Riedl, but SV Horn responded with energy and equalised through Elias Bauer. The visitors restored their lead before half-time, only for Lukas Hofbauer to level again in first-half stoppage time. The second half followed a similar pattern: Wiener SC moved ahead, Horn fought back to 3-3, and Riedl completed his hat-trick late on to seal all three points for the visitors.

Match overview

SV Horn set up with an aggressive high press, looking to force mistakes in Wiener SC’s build-up. That approach created chances but also left space behind the defence, which Wiener SC exploited ruthlessly on the counter. The visitors sat in a compact mid-block, won second balls in midfield and attacked quickly through the flanks. The result was an end-to-end match with seven goals and plenty of tactical tension.

Key moments

• 7’ – Wiener SC 1-0: Daniel Riedl latched onto a through ball and finished calmly past the Horn goalkeeper.
• 19’ – SV Horn 1-1: Elias Bauer punished a loose clearance with a low strike from the edge of the box.
• 33’ – Wiener SC 2-1: Marco Pichler cut inside from the right and curled a shot into the far corner.

• 88’ – Wiener SC 4-3: Riedl completed his hat-trick with a composed finish after being played in behind the Horn defence.

Tactical story

Horn’s high line was both their greatest weapon and their biggest risk. They pressed well in spells, forcing Wiener SC into hurried passes, but the visitors’ direct running in behind constantly stretched the home defence. Wiener SC’s midfield duo protected the back four effectively and released their forwards early. Horn’s substitutions added fresh legs and helped them equalise twice, but their inability to manage transitions ultimately cost them. The winning goal came from exactly the kind of quick break that had threatened all evening.

Standout players

Daniel Riedl was the obvious match-winner, scoring three goals and leading the line with intelligence and composure. Marco Pichler’s movement and delivery caused problems throughout, while Stefan Kroiß controlled the tempo in midfield for Wiener SC. For SV Horn, Elias Bauer’s brace and relentless pressing stood out, and Lukas Hofbauer’s energy in the middle kept the home side competitive until the final minutes.

What the result means

The three points lift Wiener SC above SV Horn in the Austrian 3.Liga standings and give them important momentum in a tightly packed mid-table. For Horn, the defeat is a painful one after twice fighting back to level, and it leaves them searching for consistency in defence. The seven-goal spectacle will be remembered as one of the season’s most entertaining matches, but for Horn the focus must quickly shift to tightening up at the back and turning promising attacking displays into points.
