SV Horn and Traiskirchen produced a seven-goal thriller in the Austrian 3. Liga, with the visitors edging a breathless contest 4-3. It was a match that swung from one direction to the other, featuring comebacks, defensive errors and a decisive late strike that settled an encounter few in the ground will forget quickly.

Match overview

Played on 26 September 2026, the Lower Austria clash pitted two clubs with very different recent histories. SV Horn, a former professional outfit with a strong following in the Waldviertel, hosted a Traiskirchen side eager to prove itself against one of the more established names in the division. What followed was an open, end-to-end game in which neither defence ever looked fully in control.

How the drama unfolded

• Early pressure: Traiskirchen started aggressively and stunned the home crowd by taking the lead inside the opening stages.
• Doubling up: A second goal soon followed, the product of a quick break and a clinical finish, leaving Horn with a mountain to climb.
• Horn respond: The hosts pulled one back before half-time, a set piece bundled home to revive their hopes.
• Second-half surge: Horn levelled early after the restart and then took the lead, completing a remarkable turnaround.
• Traiskirchen fight back: The visitors equalised again, and with the game stretched, they found a fourth goal late on to claim all three points.

Tactical story

Traiskirchen's game plan was built on speed. They pressed Horn's centre-backs aggressively, forcing long balls that their midfield could then contest, and they attacked the space behind the full-backs at every opportunity. That approach brought two early goals but also left them exposed once Horn settled and began to play through the press with shorter passes.

Horn's comeback was driven by a change of shape, with an extra body pushed into midfield and the wingers instructed to attack the byline. For a period of twenty minutes, the hosts looked the far more dangerous side. But chasing the game left gaps at the back, and Traiskirchen's willingness to keep committing players forward was ultimately rewarded.

Standout performers

For the winners, the two forward players were relentless, linking play and running into channels all evening. The goalkeeper also made two crucial saves during Horn's best spell, saves that proved just as valuable as the goals at the other end.

Horn's captain led by example in midfield, driving the comeback with energy and intelligent distribution, while the substitute introduced after the interval added genuine creativity and was involved in both second-half goals. The defensive unit, though, will spend the week reviewing a series of avoidable concessions.

What it means for the table

Three points on the road against a promotion rival is a significant result for Traiskirchen, who will take real confidence from the way they handled the pressure of a hostile away ground. For SV Horn, a home defeat after leading in the second half is a painful setback, and the coaching staff will be focusing on game management and defensive structure in the coming fixtures.

The Austrian 3. Liga is unforgiving — squads are tested by long travel, tight scheduling and unpredictable pitches — and results like this one often shape the mood of an entire autumn. Horn will want to respond quickly; Traiskirchen will want to build on a performance that underlined their attacking potential.
