SC Imst edge SV Fügen 2-1 in tense Tirol derby

SC Imst claimed local bragging rights on Saturday with a 2-1 win over SV Fügen in the Austrian 3. Liga, in a match played with the intensity and needle that a Tirol derby always brings. The hosts led twice, defended their advantage with real determination in the closing stages, and secured three points that will mean a great deal to players, staff and supporters alike.

Fügen, who fought back gamely after falling behind early, will feel they deserved something from an evenly matched contest. But Imst's greater precision in the decisive moments — and a couple of crucial saves at the other end — proved the difference between the two sides.

Match overview

• Competition: Austrian 3. Liga
• Fixture: SC Imst vs SV Fügen
• Result: SC Imst 2-1 SV Fügen
• Venue: Sportzentrum Imst
• Outcome: Home victory; three points to Imst

How the game was won

Imst came out with obvious intent, pressing high and refusing to let Fügen settle into any kind of rhythm at the back. The approach paid off inside the opening twenty minutes when a well-timed interception in midfield released a runner into space, and the finish — low, hard and across the goalkeeper — set the tone for the afternoon.

The lead lasted only ten minutes. Fügen responded with their best passage of the first half, moving the ball quickly through the middle and finding an equaliser with a close-range finish after a scramble in the box. For a period after that goal, the visitors looked the more composed side, and Imst had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the scores level at the interval.

The second half was a tighter, more attritional affair. Chances were harder to come by, the midfield became a battleground of duels and second balls, and both benches grew increasingly animated. The decisive moment arrived with around twenty minutes to play: a free kick delivered into a crowded penalty area was only half-cleared, and Imst's midfielder pounced on the loose ball to drive it through a forest of bodies and into the net.

The closing stages

Fügen pushed hard for a second equaliser and came close on two occasions — one header that drifted narrowly wide and one long-range effort that forced a fingertip save over the bar. Imst, for their part, defended with the desperation of a side that knew exactly what was at stake, blocking shots and clearing their lines under pressure.

Five minutes of stoppage time gave the visitors one final chance to snatch a point, but a last-ditch tackle on the edge of the area snuffed out the danger and the referee's whistle arrived moments later to confirm the win.

Standout performers

• Imst's goalkeeper produced two vital saves, including one from point-blank range in the first half that kept the score level.
• The Imst midfield covered enormous ground, winning possession repeatedly and dictating the tempo in the second half.
• Fügen's front line caused problems all afternoon with their movement in behind, even if the final ball let them down at critical moments.

Season impact

Derby wins carry a value that goes beyond the league table. They build belief, they buy patience from supporters during leaner spells, and they create a narrative that players carry into the following fixtures. For Imst, this result offers a platform to build on at home, where their form will largely determine how ambitious their season can be.

Fügen, meanwhile, will take encouragement from a performance that showed fight and no small amount of quality. The margins in the Austrian 3. Liga are famously slim, and a single goal conceded from a set piece is often all that separates a good point from a frustrating defeat. Their task now is to turn these narrow losses into draws and wins as the campaign progresses.
